That leaves the only important of the movie left: Palpatine gets elected.

This sums it up for me. While I understand and acknowledge that Palpatine's rise to power is incredibly important for the saga and, in so many ways, the most influential part of the story, it seems like it could have been designed in a far more efficient and economical way. Don't get me wrong, the political angle to the film is brilliant: in addition to showing how Palpatine ascended to the office of Supreme Chancellor, it also foreshadows the beginning of the Separatist movement.

Meanwhile, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith seemed to have much more to them than just Palpatine's political career being enhanced.

How do you think it should have been done?

I think they could have solved Palaptine's "power" problem by having him elected on a platform of moderation amidst the Separatist Crisis. Like he's portrayed in Cloak of Deception, someone who doesn't want power, but is willing to do what's necessary to protect peace and the Republic. Similar to AotC, use the "discovery" of the droid factories as a final push to Chancellorship via condoning the unfortunate use of Clones (as compared to a Padme-esque opponent of appeasement). Really, start with AotC, just tweak a few bit.

But that's me. I like political thrillers. I recognize the fact that a genre built on space travel and epic adventures, such a thing isn't wholly marketable to the classic demographic for Star Wars. But working with what's already given to us... we're kinda stuck.

ya

I think the political angle would actually be welcome to Star Wars and please the original demographic if we weren't saturated in it. The Clone Wars, Palpatine's rise to power, and whatnot are all huge pieces to the PT that should be told through the lense of Anakin's fall. Starting it where AotC is brilliant in that Palpatine could use Current-Chancellor's inability to stifle Dooku's Separatist crisis as the means to vote him out of office and land the job himself.

Anakin's story should have begun him as a teenage Padawan. I know the typical Hero's Quest starts the hero out as a virtual nobody but it can slide. They have three movies to put forward references and discussion about Anakin's origins, maybe even a flashback or two (likely not). That way Palpatine's Plagueis tale would be that more of a shock. His disdain for politics can be played upon by the Jedi's need to be involved in it (further, I mean, that what we were shown), and could serve to confuse the guy more.

I like some measure of symmetry between the PT and OT; Anakin could start out as 19 or 20, like Luke did.

Chris Nolan > Publius and Blank101?

Absolutely.

Go see Inception. Now.

Sorry, but you're not someone whose opinion really matters to the rest of us. Go back to the comic book section and stare at the nice pictures and leave analysis and critique of literature to everyone else.

Inception is not literature you god damned Kentucky redneck!

Speaking of which, are you still there or did you go away to College?

I'm still thar.

I'm sorry.

"Democrat" or "liberal" is worse. Or black. HAHAHAAHAH

DS, there are some context clues that suggest that Blax was not taking a shot at your ideology, but rather poking fun at the hyperpartisanship that prompted the sort of response you just posted. Let's explore them together.

The first thing you'll notice is that Blax mimicked your syntactical choices. That is, his "insult" was a single label removed from a supporting sentence. This can be interpreted as playful wordsmithing.

The next thing that stands out, to me at least, is that Blax used a pair of "ha"s. Instead of a single derisive "ha," he used the more earnest "haha." Sarcasm rarely needs both components of the laugh.

Finally, he includes the phrase "that insult that is definitely an insult." When something is insulting, it rarely needs explanation that it is, in fact, insulting. Given the context, it would be even more clear that he was using the word "Republican" to match your "Retard," redoubling the implications of his word choice. By explaining (particularly in this sort of awkward, clunky language [he repeats the word "insult" within the span of five words]) his intentions, he is actually telling us that his barb is nothing more than a joke.

He is joking.

I'm not entirely sure you understand the concept of sarcasm, because if you did, you wouldn't have to defend his views, which apparently mirror yours. But I will amuse myself with your lack of social skills (even through text).

Which is really irrelevant because I just posted a quick comeback, nothing more.

I guess you missed the "hahahaha" then. Not surprising.

Thank you for stating the obvious for everybody. I think you need to get out more so you could "get it".
