The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

I don't know about you guys, but I would rather believe in the Yuuzhan Vong pantheon than any primitive Earth-religion. Praise be to Yun-Harla, Yun-Yammka and Yu'shaa, our Savior!

No, i actually wouldn't rather believe in something written as fiction by a fiction writer (read: scientology) than something believed for thousands of years by actual people.

Besides: My only problem with Muslims right now is the way they kill lots of people a lot. The Taliban executing the 7 year old boy by beheading them after a "trial" decided he was an American spy kinda sets the bar for me on that.

Don't count on it. Christianity had its crusades 900 years ago. Now the Muslims are having theirs.
Wrong, crusades were a counter attack when the Muslims started invading eastern Europe, and the "quest for the holy land" was more of a propaganda thing started by the catholic church in order to recruit.

When you say muslims, you really mean to say Seljuk Turks and when you say Eastern Europe, you really mean to say the Byzantine Empire.

The Crusades were nothing more than opportunistic move by Urban II to try and accomplish what his predecessors (Gregory VII and Victor III) could not. Gregory VII was too busy with the Investiture Controversy and his spat with Emperor Henry IV, while Victor III died after barely a year in office. Neither of them were able to repair the schism of 1054. Urban hoped to gain leverage over Alexios I by sending the massive horde of 60,000 (consider the logistics of that in 11th century Europe) that he managed to rally. Alexios only wanted a small elite and professional force to help him with the Turks. He was pretty pissed when a mob showed up, lead by several key German nobles to boot.

Of course, being the badass that he was, Alexios I made a total idiot out of Godfrey of Bouillon.

rex is taking prisoners tonight!

A highly educated response.

Let's cut the somewhat anti-Muslim comments down to a minimum, folks. I'm fine with you discussing whatever as long as it's generally friendly.

I try, Ms.Marvel.

That was an intelligent comment about the 1st crusade. They weren't all for the same reason, if i remember correctly. Including the "children's crusade" remember that one?

LOL. I suggest you read up on the crusades. Basically what Veneficus said.

Eh, you're not taking the rest of the Crusades into account, just the first one. The first one was to reclaim Jerusalem from the Muslims. Almost a hundred years later, they lost it to Saladin and the rest of the Crusades were to take it back. Urban wasn't involved with anything other than his famous speech.

I was focusing on OFM's claim, which centered around what started the Crusades in the first place. I'm fully aware that the following crusades each had their own various reasons for taking place. It's been awhile since I took European History though.

The only thing I remember about the 2nd Crusade was that it failed horribly and Phillip whatever of France had to go home.

He said what I said, i just simplified it for modern terms.

He elaborated on the politics and the key people involved.

Children's Crusade was the best one.

I still laugh out loud about the children's crusade. You talk about the stupidest thing in history.

I would like someone whose input (if not their position) I respect to define the terms "racism" and "bigotry" for me. TJ, this means you.

I am not TJ.

Racism is the concept of viewing one race as inferior to another for various reasons.

Bigotry is the concept of viewing one life style as inferior to another.

Does anyone find it ironic that the greatest rapper of all time is white?

Actually, no because it isn't really true. I do find it ironic that one of the most listened to rappers in the world happens to be white, though.

Eminem's my favorite rapper, and Recovery is the shit. . He's not the best though.

I don't know about that. I grew up with gangster rap such as NWA and Death Row and while I used to think 2pac was the greatest rapper, Eminem appears to have more talent in every aspect imaginable. I don't think I've ever listened to a rapper where at least half of his songs were badass.

To me:

Racism is viewing one race as inferior to another.
Bigotry is viewing almost anything with a predetermined, prejudice, and almost always negative point of view.

For instance, I believe you are responding to my blah on muslims post above?

*Rex, this will be the last thing I say on the matter, but I think its important that I explain where I was coming from, not trying to be offensive here at all. *

In that case, I am becoming more and more likely to dislike all muslims based on the acts of a small percentage of the whole. I have become convinced that the majority IS either violent, or accepting of the violence. I feel this way, not becaues of a few solitary acts, but because of continual attacks that show up on the news almost everyday, where Muslims killed and destroyed other people. Yes, other people blow things up, and yes, some of them are christians or hindu's or scientologists, but there are not NEARLY the volume of violent attacks from these groups as there are from muslims. Therefore I am bigoted towards them. I was not this way at first, or even for the first few years after 9/11. I would have been the first to tell you the majority are peaceful, and a small minority is making them look back. As the years have dragged on, however, and the attacks have INCREASED, and then reading about trying to put a giant mosque in the proximity of the felled WTC... Its just too much. I am starting to think they are almost all like that.

I am not, however, racist towards them, because I would dislike a white muslim just as much as an arab muslim.

Racist.

Does it hurt knowing that Rogue Jedi running around parading the same avatar as you? HWKO did the same.
