If we were living in the 50's today I'd be forced to sit in the back of any bus I was in and could get hanged for dating a white girl, everyone would be smoking all the time, even when pregnant, smacking women and kids around wouldn't be that big of a deal, among other ridiculous things.

Hence, "smarter" isn't really the word that comes to mind when I think of people in the 50's. What comes to mind is "Ignorant as ****"... there's more to being smart then mathematics and physics and other academics, and even then, the amount of literate people has jumped by like at least 30% since the 1950's... so to say that people were smarter back in the day is hard to take as valid from any point of view.

Edit: the Reboot that I've seen from the internet (I'd also never heard of it before Gideon started fapping to it) is turrible, even to the extent that it is not watchable in the "it is so bad that it's good" sense.
