"I have been at the mercy of men just following orders. Never again."

I believe that may have been one of the most awesome lines in that film, but then just about everything in First Class was awesome.

Conviction is just about the worst star wars book i've ever read. it took me this long, i bought it three weeks ago. I just kept losing interest in it.

Other than apparently it not following the comics and Magneto turning evil quicker than Anakin was seduced by the dark side. Also, putting in January Jones as a telepath who could also turn into one giant diamond really reduces the powers of Professor X. He looked like a weakling compared to her and Shaw. The power fluctuations from all these reboots are retarded.

Magneto was ALWAYS evil! that wasn't a sudden change.

No, it definitely was. He was more or less rational throughout the film and suddenly, he just wanted to destroy the humans and take over the world. Basically Shaw #2. I don't like the contradictions with the X:Men origins, comics, and Anakin-like turn but whatever, it gets people into theaters.

he wasn't rational at all really, he always wanted to kill those who had hurt him. when the humans turned on him, he freaked out.

Now the worst decision was when all those missiles were flying towards the beach, why didn't the teleporter just teleport them all out of there?

Because the writers such at continuity or superhero common sense?

You guys are party poopers. The movie was great. Stop nitpicking.

Spoiler:
What about him is irrational? The stage is set from the beginning of the film for Erik to make the decision he does at the end. His mother is murdered right next to him, his people are enslaved and slaughtered, and suddenly the only people this child knows who are still alive are the ones responsible.

He meets Charles and they talk peace, but as the climax demonstrates, even if Shaw or a successor isn't trying to secure militant dominance for his species the humans always will be. If the only options his people are ever going to be given are subjugation and experimentation or extermination, there will be no negotiations and there will be no peace. He won't let another family be forced down that road.

And really, as of the conclusion of First Class he has still done nothing that would make him as twisted a man as Shaw. The extent of his villainy was an enraged attack on a CIA operative who'd just tried to shoot him in the head and a similarly retaliatory strike against navies that had just tried to bomb him and most of the only other mutants and friends he knew.

Unless there are some relevant plot points I'm completely overlooking, there is no reason Erik's arc should be considered illogical or underdeveloped.

Spoiler:
The only people Azazel was allied with were Shaw (dead), Frost (elsewhere), Riptide (unconscious), and Angel. You seem to have forgotten that he tried to kill Havok and Beast and that Erik had just pushed a piece of metal through his leader's brain.

The only ones he had any remote allegiance or responsibility to who were actually still there were Riptide and Angel. But why not stick around to see how things played out, especially with Erik and Xavier - the two biggest players left on the mutant side, Frost notwithstanding - clearly cognizant of the threat and the former actively deciding to do something about it?

And I hope you don't complain about Charles not mind-controlling the crews into complacency; he'd never demonstrated the ability to do such a thing on a large scale and without Cerebro it stands to reason that the sheer number of psychic presences coupled with the distance from them made isolating the top men nearly impossible.

First Class has a lot of terrific things going for it. The complete waste of a potentially fantastic character in

Spoiler:
Darwin
, some underdevelopment of the titular first class and the lack of even an attempt to thicken the characters of Azazel and Riptide [both of whom I thought made good visual villains nonetheless], an underwhelming and hammy performance by Kevin Bacon, and a rare goofy effects gag are my only gripes with a film that otherwise far exceeded expectations.

Fassbender and McAvoy are now firmly my definitive incarnations of their respective characters (no small feat), and deservedly. Beast looked almost as close to ideal as I'd hoped to see on film, and though I hope he's a little less mopey in the sequels I did like his little arc. Havok is a jerk and I hope he gets some sort of turnaround in the future, but I do like Lucas Till in the role and I'm excited to see if anything gets made of the Summers family drama. Mystique, Angel, and Moira were decent enough (Rose Byrne looking gorgeous), but Banshee is by far the most pleasant surprise of the ancillary bunch. Really, I loathed what little I knew of the character before I saw the film, and the main two aside ended up enjoying his presence on-screen the most.

Banshee had a romance with Deadpool. Thats all you need to know.

Spoiler:
It was actually really sweet.

Edit: Whoops. Thats girl Banshee. Boy Banshee from the movie I know nothing about.

Oooooo we're on the same page, creepy.

Yea, McAvoy was phenomenal in this movie but the guy from Inglorious Basterds completely steals the show. He was just out of this world in this movie.

Faunus, all Xavier had to do was mind-control the teleportation guy into getting them out of there. No large scale problem.

Indeed. Its a shame we weren't there in the heat of the moment to make these judgement calls from our armchairs. We would have solved that problem with our awesome hindsight powers lickidy split.

nope, instead we are going to have to say that since Xavier DIDN'T force him to teleport him out of there, that Xavier CAN'T do it at all.. PIS.... just like Luke and the black hole at the center of the galaxy... haha. : )

you all already know where i stand on the issue, nobody ask if i'm being serious or not...
