I liked 'em both mind you, but the fights in X1 were shit.
"Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning?"
It flies up out of an elevator on a shitty wire, after watching a fake-looking wolverine swing around the statue of Liberty's crown.
Or part 2, which gave us a great opening fight with Nightcrawler, let Logan rip a few guards at the house, and ended with an OK fight with Uriko.
While they showed some great moments of the mutants using their powers in small ways, and had great characterization and dialouge, they were just set up for this movie:
The huge batttle of many mutants with many powers, with Phoenix doing the whole "hero taps into power to become unstoppable evil" thing WAY better than that punk Anakin did.
Wolverine had his best fight scenes in this film, Mags owned, I understood more about his and Charles relationship, and oh yeah, PYRO v.s. ICEMAN.
I've heard this movie called the Return of the Jedi of the series, with the same actors finishing a story doing cool fights, that doesn't measure up to the others.
BOLLOCKS!
I can't watch much of X1 anymore, and X2 takes FOREVER to get from the good beginning to the good end. (though I did catch them both before going to see X3.)
This film is more like the Revenge of the Sith of the series, taking the set-up and characterization of the first 2, and bringing it to a close, with a huge battle.
Definitely has more replay-value than 1 or 2.
I'm glad the gay guy directed the first 2 to set up the people and define the relationships, so that the straight guy could give us the huge action flick with mutants going nuts on each other that we all wanted to see, capping off a great trilogy.
Hopefully his Superman that is without a chick or a world that wants him doesn't come out too emo.
(God knows the soundtrack sure is.)
😎 finally someone who makes sense!
