The Dark Knight Discussion (Use Spoiler Tags)

The thing is is that I believe the Dark Knight is the Empire Strikes Back of this series. I just don't see how he can top it. I think the rivalry between Batman and the Joker and their battle for the hearts and minds of the Gothamites as well as the fall of Harvey Dent and the role the Joker played in that is what made this movie dynamic and organic the great performances aside. I don't know if Nolan can tell a better story the next time around and the Joker was really such a big part IMO of this movie being so amazing. The villains in BB were kind of bland and I think that's another reason why it never did a ton for me...I just don't think that there is going to be another villain in this series more compelling than Ledger's Joker.

I think the next film can beat Begins and still be a great movie, but not top Dark Knight.

Yeah I personally think Begins will prolly end up being the weakest of the series JMO. But I don't think TDK is going to be topped.

The characters that will be returning are so well developed already, and the "Batman on the run" scenario seems like something Nolan can nail. The third film, IF Nolan does it, can be excellent. Just not TDK. 😛

I whole heartedly agree, and as for the rest of the movie I'm just going to copy/paste what I wrote in another thread.

As far as liking it, I enjoyed it. I thought Heath Ledger stole the show. For the rest of the film, it was slow at times, the action was okay with only a few surprises. I thought some of the Joker's antics were very clever, like I said, Ledger stole the show. I gotta say, I don't really like Christian Bale as Batman. I think he looks like a recovered alcoholic who is going through withdrawal, and I can't stand his deep Batman voice, it always annoys me and it takes me out of the escape of watching a movie I want to lose myself in.

All in all, it was a good movie, I think it should have been called 'Two Face' though, since it really was about him.

The movie wasn't just about Two Face though he just played a very pivotal part in the story since the Joker used him to accomplish his objectives. The movie IMO was about a tug of war between Batman and the Joker for the hearts and minds of the people of Gotham.

Yeah, but the character who went through the most transformation, the character who we got to know the most, the character who lost the love of his life, the character who's true outcome was covered up for the 'hearts and minds of the people of Gotham', was Two Face.

I thought the "screen time" and character development for Batman, The Joker, and Two Face was nicely divided.

A large part of the film was developing the persona of "Batman" in Bruce.

I didn't think the film was about Two-Face at all. There appeared to be just as much relationship face-time between Alfred and Bruce as there were character dynamics in Harvey.

I liked that scene. I didn't jump at all

That didn't scare me. For some reason I was anticipating him seeing something in the window. I wasn't expecting that but I had a feeling something was coming.
