I fully get why it's needed I'm just saying if it's so important it should be ran tighter and more efficiently. There are plenty of useless threads in there even by your standards.

This doesn't change the fact that losing the GDF would eventually be detrimental to KMCs operation as a full, broad forum. Losing the OTF would not.

The OTF was originally for topics that didn't ahve a forum and didn't merit a new forum for it... not that trash bin of flirts, stalkers, fruits, socks, trollers, egocentric monkeys, e-pimps, e-thugs, e-gangsta's, manwhores and other garbage it is now.

I'm wondering if I should go into KMC history here, to clear some stuff up for people.

At any rate, the OTF is not a necessity. It is a luxury, and KMC survived fine without it much longer than it existed.

Maybe I was broad when I said the OTF. What I meant when I said it was the people in the OTF. As you said so yourself people who don't want to have intelligent conversations.

It keeps the lions at bay. Unfortunately unlike everyone else makes it seems I doubt if the deletion of it would result in things calming down or going back to how it was before hand. There would just be people that move on into different parts of the forum. Those that joined for others reasons would go back to them or learn a new one and those that are here purely for the freedom that is the OTF would have a choice leave and find a new home on another site or make room for themselves here. Well, see, the GDF used to be like the OTF, but more serious, and stuff would get closed if it got to a certain length and went off-topic. The OTF had been created a couple months before I joined, but then it was like a more light-hearted version of the GDF and staying entirely on-topic wasn't required. That's why there's threads in the GDF like The Member Pics Thread, 'What does your username mean', etc. It's only in the past year that the GDF has become a place for serious discussions - it never used to be. It was KMC's social area when the site was smaller.

The OTF only ever became really bad after the creation and removal of Tired Hiker's Pad, which was a subforum TH modded. We'd make all sorts of stupid threads in there, which were not serious in anyway and were mostly just poking fun. When the Pad was closed, though, the threads were moved to the OTF proper, and new people joining saw those, and thought "Oh, that's the norm for here, I suppose I should do stuff like that", and that's when all the dumb threads that persist today really began to get made in large numbers. The stuff that happens now in the OTF would never fly in here 2 years ago.

And I read Fire's comment about how the people in the OTF are largely anti-social and how people threw a fit over that, saying that it's not possible to be anti-social in a social forum. This is not true at all. Being anti-social does NOT mean that you draw away from people and aren't sociable at all. The amount of backstabbing and bashing that goes on in this forum is ridiculous, and that IS anti-social behavior -- acting without regard to others at all and being willing to manipulate people to get your way. Which happens in here a lot.

And even in the popular definition of anti-social, a lot of people in here ARE, very much so. How about all the people who refuse to leave the OTF, who don't know any of the forums outside of it, or any of the posters who don't post primarily in here?

In other words...what good has come from the OTF?

I'm not saying the OTF is the best or even near the top of it. I know what it was intended for and what it now has become. As of now it stands as an embarrassment to KMC and unfortunately ones only means(hopefully) for keeping those that make this place look bad amongst one another. There are a few like you Lana who can easily do without the OTF and know to keep to pm's but, not everyone has that luxury I'm sure there are a few individuals whose opinions you definitely wouldn't want to see in the GDF. As for the anti social comment I fully agree the with your view. I couldn't care less for the bashing that people appear to do in unison. It's as if every other day someone is the new it person to be hated and trashed amongst everyone.

There's not a 'few' of us who can do without the OTF fine.

I would say that the majority of KMCers would be fine without it. Keep in mind that there is a good deal of people on here who've never even stepped foot in here.

I'm not saying that the OTF should go. I'm just saying that it's not in anyway a necessity, and it's only real purpose is to keep garbage out of the other forums.

If the OTF were closed, I'd expect the GDF to become less serious and we could have some threads from here over there...but it would (hopefully) be run more efficent and we'd get rid of the assholes a lot easier.

Most threads in here suck anyways.

Like Lana said, the GDF has a whole bunch of threads in there that would be considered "Off Topic" now, and I made most of them. 😛 There are threads there that would go in lots of other forums too because they were made before the forums we have now were here. The GDF WAS the OTF of it's day.

So in summation; The OTF isn't a necessity to KMC, just a necessity to certain members, and I think Raz cares more about the site he created than the members who join it to "chat" in a "lounge".
