Study up? 😆

I saw Green Day in concert for myself at one of the early Lalapaloozas in the early nineties, so I do know what I'm talking about. The fact that you said to 'study up' just proves to me that you don't know what you are talking about. I don't need to study up to state my opinion on something, and I don't care what some writer for a music magazine or website says about Green Day's ties with real punk rock music.

You most certainly do need to study up to make that opinion credible, Hiker, and your comments are proving that you don't know anything about the subject.

Go and look at song structure, melodies and time signatures. Then go and compare early Green Day to original punk bands like The Clash and The Ramones.

The way they play, sing and craft their song structures are similar. The key that Billie Jo sings in, the way he plays guitar, the song lengths, especially earlier.

That's a fact. You having seen them at Lollapalooza doesn't erase that fact.

Song structure and length and melodies don't matter when it comes to what I find being punk. Metallica has a ton of songs with structure, changes in tempo, and intricancies that are similar to that of classical music, yet I wouldn't call them classical. Punk to me was more of an era, a vibe, created by the musicians of that time. I love the Ramones, I love the Clash, The Dead Milkmen, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys . . . Green Day has some short fast songs, I'll agree with that.

I never, ever said Green Day were a punk band. The fact is, they have closer connections to punk and original punk bands than a lot of other bands claiming to be punk. That is a fact, because of the song structure, melodies and length.

Metallica are by no means classical, but because of their technique and penchant for crafting songs in such a way, they do have more in common with classical than most metal bands. That's my point; that Green Day simply have a more credible and visible connection, and they do.

Yes, and they're not a punk band, but I never said they were. I said they have more connections to original punk than most other modern bands who call themselves punk.

Okay then, fine. 🤘

Even though I know 'tis damn easy to download them off the internet or something, I still go out and buy iTunes cards from Best Buy. I just respect the artists and etc, so.

A lot of people don't think my way, I get prodded at. I don't mind.

True, so basically your downloading is a just war against the big record labels ....that bring you the music you like? Interesting.

a war? you are blowing things way out of proportion here, man.

Can't the record companies and the computer hackers just get along? Peace and love, Hiker. 🙂

right, that'll happen.
