Kobe wasnt trying to prove a point, he averaged 42pts in the regular season against the Suns and how many wins did we get? 1 and that was with the Suns missing Bell and Nash. He scored 50 in game 6, did we win that one? No. The point is it takes the whole team to beat the Suns, its been proven in the wins we had in the series. Some teams we can beat with just Kobe scoring big but not the Suns.
The thing is he cant really win no matter what he does, if he shots too much people complain that he doesnt "make anyone better", if he passes to his teammates and they miss (which happened alot in game 7) people say "why is he passing to these scrubs?" Its a no win situation unless his teammates play at a high level and hit their shots, then people can see the potential of this team.

What do all of you think about the Nets vs Heat matchup???? I say the Nets win it in 7...if vince continues to torch the heat, this may be a sweep or end in game 5. i highly doubt miami will win this series. dwayne wade and shaq may be a great duo, but they will not be enough for the big three.
i already gave my insight on the nets series, but i say miami in 6, Carter is gonna get his points, but i think miami will be able to slow down jefferson, and kidd is not really a scoring threat, they shut down jefferson then take away some vital points, you can counter and say but kristic is a threat, not really, he can score but he is to inconsitent to rely on night after night...but like i said before, whoever controls this tempo is gonna win this series, new jersey problem is they think they can play a half court game sometimes when they can't... there best strength is running the court, and of course miami's problem is gonna be if shaq is gonna show up, miami also might not have the chemistry that new jersey has right now, but they can change with winning, even tho wade is hurt, i dont think its gonna effect his game, plus i'm sure he's already close or possibley even 100% by now

if they pick up jay williams, and he plays to his potential, that will change...all the lakers need is a good point guard, of course it wouldn't hurt if they upgraded there role players but with a good point guard you really wouldn't need to....imagine having a point guard who can penetrate and distribute the ball where all the role players have to do is catch and score, which would mean Defenses wouldnt be able to collaspe on Kobe as much....of course i'm sure laker fans already know this but i'm bored so i typed it anyways afro2
I liked Jay's game before he got injured, not sure what his status is now though. Any upgrades we make have to be defensive, that is where we need help the most. We cant stop PG dribble penetration and we have no shotblocking. Our first concern is a getting a PG that can keep his man in front of him, Smush is great at getting steals but he gambles too much and gets burned because of it. I've said before that either Duhon or Banks would be great considering we dont have much to offer, both of these guys are fundamentally sound defensively and relatively cheap.
I dont think we need that much more help offensively, the triangle offense when run properly creates good scoring opportunities for average players (think how well scrubs like Bobby Hansen, Pete Myres, Bill Wennington, Luc Longley and even Bill Cartwright played in the Bulls triangle). Now that Lamar, Kwame, Walton, Smush and Mihm have got the offense i think we will score enough to beat alot of teams. Obviously if a superstar scorer comes along you have to pull the trigger but as long as the guys run the offense we will be ok.
Anyway onto current games. Great nail bitter in Texas, i think Dirk will struggle against Bowen all series. He will have some decent games but i dont expect him to dominate like he did against Memphis. Duncan looked like his old self but im not sure if he can continue to play that well carrying that foot injury.
The Pistons went ahead and raped poor LeBron, i think everyone (myself included) got a bit ahead of ourselves when he was going against the non existent defense of the Wizards. Now he is up against the best and i cant see the Cavs getting any games in this series unless the Pistons get too overconfident. LeBron is now facing what Kobe faces every night where the whole defense is geared towards stopping him, it'll be interesting to see how he adjusts his game.
As for the Nets and Heat, i can actually see the Nets taking this one (much to tanjots amazement im sure). The main reason for this is Shaq disappointing play, part of his problem is that they are calling any contact he initiates a foul and the rest is just him getting old. If the Nets can get out and run then it could be curtains for the Heat as that will tire Shaq even more, its a bit like the Suns Lakers series where the team that controls tempo will win. Wade as great as he is cant carry this team past the Nets by himself, these "great" players that Riley brought in are gonna have to step up.

i agree with you about jason kidd, but not about richard jefferson. remember..last year when miami sweeped new jersey, carter did not have much help from jefferson because he was injured. in the three games he played he only had about 9 or 10 points. jefferson is now 100%, being another reason i think new jersey can take the series.
we will see who wins game one between miami and new jersey tonight at 8 on tnt.
