Re: I am officially jobless!!

So three days ago, I called into work because I didn't have anyone to watch my kid. Everyone was either sick, or just plain unavailable because of work or prior engagements. So, I have sick time on the books, and I usually NEVER miss work unless I'm very sick, and I call in to my lieutenant and explain my situation. The following is pretty much what was said over the phone:"Sir, I have absolutely nobody to watch my daughter. I won't be able to come in tonight."
"Okay. I understand, however you're going to have to bring in a doctor's excuse when you come back to work."
"But I'm not sick, sir. I just don't have anyone to babysit. Why do I need a doctor's excuse?"
"That's just the way it works. We need a valid excuse, otherwise it won't be justifiable."
"Lieutenant, I'm not going to spend $20 on a visit to my doctor for a note. Even if it is a co-pay, I'm not going to throw my money away like that."
"Then you can expect a diciplinary when you come back to work."
"For what reason?!?!?"
"For failure to prove justification of absence."
"I already told you!! I don't have a sitter!!"
"That's not my problem."
"Okay. Later."
So yesterday I went to my unit and turned in all of my uniforms and my state I.D. along with my letter of resignation. I have more than enough money in my bank account to sustain me until I find a new job, plus I'll get a compensatory check for all of my overtime, sick, and holiday hours. Now, about an hour ago, I got a call from my assistant warden. He says that he wants me to come in and sit down for a discussion about what happened so we can try to straighten this out. I'm thinking that this can be a good opportunity for me to ask for more. What say you guys?
try to reason with them...you wouldn't want to lose permanent employment with the state..it's as good as money in the bank..not over this..and i don't know if this poses an opportunity to ask for more...i recommend that you sit down and listen to what they got to say...and be glad they didn't accept your resignation right away

I wrote a 3 page letter of resignation, and I got my point across very clearly. I explained that I'm fed with being treated like shit, and not given the respect I deserve as an officer. That, and being assaulted by inmates, beit phsically or with excreta. I've been attacked twice, and I've had urine and/or feces chunked on me. What a fun job, huh? I don't have the desire to go back to that. However, my warden told me that if I ver change my mind and I choose to rehire, he'll help me out with a good letter or recommendation. Thats means I can go to an easy, laid back minimum secirity unit, or maybe even in Transportation driving the buses.
