still having problems understanding the point you are making, Christna. I am genuinely interested in what you have to say so please don't take that the wrong way.

are you trying to say Jack is too old for Elizabeth? I am guessing they have between a 10 and 15 year age difference. Not a problem, in my book, at all. There could be a 20 year age difference and it wouldn't really bother me with them, because they seem to have similar maturity levels, and they view the world the same way. Sure, Jack's been around the block in comparison to Elizabeth, but she's wise beyond her years, and by the end of AWE, she's grown up a lot.

historically speaking, it wouldn't have been at all weird. Norrington had to be at least Jack's age, and she was going to marry him. In the past, men married older, once they were established and had a steady income, and women married pretty much as soon as they could, because, let's face it, what else could they do?

not suggesting Jack and Elizabeth get married. but the age difference wouldn't have been a problem then. it would have been much stranger at the time for Will to be getting married when he was so young and unestablished-- unless he whipped a thriving blacksmith business out of his bag o' tricks sometime between film 1 and 2.

I guess it's a fact that a lot of girls go for someone like their father. But I dont think so in Elizabeth's case-- the only guy that remotely reminds me of her father (Norrington) is the first to get Lizzie's boot. Jack is like the total opposite. So, no, I don't think she's looking for a father figure in Jack. Though he is a mentoring figure in the ways of piracy.

Fine, you marry someone 20 years older or 30 years older even. That would prove it.

I want parents and I don't want to marry them or someone their age.

In the movie Norrington was around the same age as Jack, and it was OK to marry Elizabeth. At that time it was common, and in fact when two persons are adult, age doesn't really matter that much.

And I don't want my parents to be (the "age" of) Davy Jones as opposed to Jack Sparrow in the modern world in that way. These kids should not exist. Why not kill them all? (Not really physically kill them.)

I feel Elizabeth Swann is much elder and older as in old than me, and she is only a year and a couple months older. Amanda Bynes is almost 2 months older. I feel she looks like a giant fortitude of rock. The Olsen twins are almost a month younger and they're like s***. The little boy in The Santa Clause with Tim Allen is one day older and he just isn't like younger.

Would you rather talk to Britney Spears or me?

He's a little over 4 years younger, though.

I always thought there was a problem w/ ppl born @ 1970.

I wasn't sure of whether or not this was in the background. This must be the theme, somehow.

That means you don't have these problems in your life.

That's interesting, though.

I guess it gets pretty extreme:

It says, "I'd rather have him dead so that the chances for another movie are minimized."

Who would care @ Will?

"Fine, you marry someone 20 years older or 30 years older even. That would prove it."---christna

Wow, 11 posts in a row. Have to say, that's a little extreme.

Are you married, christna? Because I am. I'll be 23 soon and next month my husband will be 22. We met in college. Because women started receiving more formal education in this century and the last one, they were able to meet more men their own age. In college and high school, you're surrounded by people of your own age group and if you went to a school where the men outnumbered the women like I did, it's all too easy to get on the dating scene.

But in Elizabeth's time, women stopped being educated when they were around 12, and what education they did receive was mostly teaching them to read, simple simple math, music, art, sewing, dancing, and possibly a language or two. After that, it was time to start focusing on getting a husband and being introduced into society. Men at that age, went to college, joined the military, or established a trade by taking on an apprenticeship like what Will does. They were expected to have a house and a career that could support not only themselves, but a wife and a family before they got married. Hence, older men married younger women.

My husband and I are about the same age, but I had a communications teacher that was in her early 30s and she married a professor she was once an assistant for in his 50s. It's odd and old-fashioned, but they sincerely loved each other and had a daughter. Their marriage wasn't perfect for me but it was perfect for them and they were happy. Isn't that what's most important?

I never had a life in that regard. I wish I was still a kid. I'll think @ it so I don't just say stupid stuff. (I'm busy....)

I thought you were 16.

I just don't see the hype over making everyone not feel good @ themselves. I don't have to take it; I'm not a dork.

11 posts in a row? Setting a world record?

I see both of your opinions, but I agree with dear Will-o-rule-the-world.. It's true that you have to think that these were different times, and if Jack is too old, that what would that make Norrington? And couple's now days (take most of the Hollywood starlets for example..) marry either somebody younger or older than them. Honestly, if they're in love: age shouldn't matter. At all.

Then, you shouldn't have any discomfort for DavyJonesBeth or DavyJonesYou or SparroYou.
