Sparrabeth

You know, there is one song that will forever remind me of What Elizabeth feels about Jack and how she views Jack....and everytime I hear it all I can ever think about is how elated we felt after DMC..that T and T was finally getting to the crux of this Pirate Story...the story of Elizabeth Swann and Jack Sparrow, as she told her father in the beginning of the trilogy "I find it all fascinating, I think it would be exciting to meet a Pirate".......and then look at the way she can't take her eyes off of Jack the day she meets him in the flesh...when despite the fact that he knew he would be captured and sentenced to be hung at the gallows...he dove in and rescued a nameless and faceless girl! And then he turns around and uses same said girl to escape his certain death....but we all know he would have never shot her.....and I'll never forget the tingling feeling I got when they were marooned on that island together...I held my breath, I just knew something was going to happen, but it didn't....so in DMC, t and t gave us everything we had been fantazing about since the moment jack and lizzy stood face to face in the rescue scene in COTBP.....but I digress and go on and on, as I usually do when it comes to Sparrabeth....

that song is "Beautiful Disaster" by Kelly Clarkson..and TMaria and I actually did a vid to it way back when.....

here is the vid and here are the lyrics......

"Beautiful Disaster"

He drowns in his dreams
An exquisite extreme I know
He’s as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold
And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
It just ain't right
It just ain't right

Oh and I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

He's magic and myth
As strong as what I believe
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see
And do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him
Hold on tight
Hold on tight

Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he’s so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waited so long
So long

He’s soft to the touch
But frayed at the end he breaks
He’s never enough
And still he's more than I can take

Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster

He’s beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster

[Fading]
Beautiful
(Beautiful disaster)
Beautiful disaster

Savvysparrowluv is very taleneted!
Love her vids, fics and artwork!

I saw something yesterday that angered me beyond words!

Apparently Elizabeth and Will have spin off books that tell their story! Ugh!! 😠 I didnt have enough time to see what it was about...but I dont think the books are after AWE, i think they are books telling the adventures they had in that year or 2 between COTBP and DMC (i bet children fall asleep reading those books considering Willabeth is unbelieveably boring!!) Anywhoo that pissed me off!!!

also oddly i was at the mall on each table they had little AWE Game thingys (like puzzles, 2 pics where you have to tell the difference, match the Pirate Lord to their Sea etc.) but the one that caught my attention was the Match the Quote to the Character! and what got me was that there were quotes that weren't in the movie like:

Elizabeth: "I am responsible for Captain Jack Sparrow's death!"

Beckett: "Jack Sparrow was a legend even before he died."

Jack Sparrow: "I like that word opportunity it has so many syllables."

there were a few others but i cant remember them.

Aw, thank you very much CrazyTears! 😄

grrrrr.... 😠

i forgave t n t because i came to realise that they did not know any better about what happened with AWE.

The reason:

they are MEN 🙄

If two women had created this series, im pretty much sure that sparrabeth would have been the big finale...and not everyone going their separate ways 😠

But noooooooooooooooooooooooo....t n t were born MALE, and therefore they have no idea about the concept of forbidden love, and romance, and sexual attraction!!!!!

However...after you have just said this, diva....i am right back to wanting to beat them over their heads with a rather large and spikey stick until they see sense (and also because i feel it would be rather theraputic for me 😄 )

Men...
they NEVER get ANYTHING right 😠

That's frustrating. Really is...I'd come to forgive TnT too but that...
MEN! What do they know?

At least they had the good sense to not have Fiona run off with Donkey in Shrek.

LMFFAO!!!! 😆

well...on that note, i think we can all agree that atleast they got SOMETHING right 😉 😱

Seeing Enchanted being nominated for three orginal songs last night reminded me of the fact that the princess did not end up with the prince in that movie...she went with the man we see her meet and fall in love with......ARRRGGGGG.....I guess since Disney couldn't get the ending they were pulling for in Pirates...they decided to try it with Enchanted and it worked beautifully....

HA....."at least Fiona didn't run off with Donkey"....LOL

I turned on my tv yesterday afternoon...and low and behold DMC was on Encore! I only got to see a little cuz I had to go somewhere......what a beautiful movie...so good, so interesting...

and it made me ponder....how could DMC and AWE be made by the same people.....and to think they filmed both movies simutaneously....it's just a puzzlement to me that they could just drop everything going on in DMC and pretend almost as if none of it ever happened with each scene that unfolded in AWE....I just don't see where there was any connection whatsoever! How could one movie be so good and the other so bad. Sure the special effects were grand and the music...but what about the plot and the story and the characters...they all seemed to be swallowed up in the malestorm.....

That may have been the problem, tigers, filming simultaneously. They did that with the Back to the Future sequels and as a result, most people will only watch the first one because they think the other two suck. Maybe T&T were rushed. Keira mentioned that in her scene with Chow Yun Fat/Yun Fat Chow (won't someone tell me which one is right?) she had no idea what she was doing there and played the scene "wrong" because she thought she'd been captured by him and was a hostage. T&T should have taken a hint from Return of the Jedi. There were 3 whole years between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. And yet audiences still flocked to make sure Han Solo got rescued and the Empire was crushed. I'm not saying it would take 3 years, but maybe had they had even 6 more months, they really could have taken their time and given a product that seemed more finished. Didn't AWE, for it's 3+ hours, still seem rushed to you?

i simply don't have time right now to properly respond to your last statements, you two, but YES and YES and I will probably have a rant about it as soon as I finish up my work.

Miz T. Maria, not Never anything right--but much more of the even a blind hog can discover an acorn in the woods. It's rare that they can follow through--they really think that grand gestures, special effects, carries the day rather than relationships. I mean to tell you, they were beside themselves, IMO, when the maelstrom come up on the screen. And those folks did rate a nomination. It's just not the meat of the story for us.

Beatin' them upside they heads would be satisfying briefly, however the risk of you harming one digit of your very capable vid hands is unacceptable.

Miz WilloftheWisp, I would have walked the length of my town to get to Return of the Jedi so I agree that a little more time would have been a real benefit. The plot got so screaming convoluted--10 leads and they all got to have the bit in their teeth so to speak. In a 20 mule team, they all pretty much have to be headed in the same direction.

😆

My mom said before it came out that they really should wait another year. Just for the money part of it hehe

Definitely. It's not like people wouldn't have gone. It came out technically less than a year after DMC, didn't it? DMC was summer of 06 and AWE was in May of 07? What was the rush?

Yes.....just 10 months apart..not even a year. I really think they should have made DMC...taken a half year off or so and then filmed AWE....I would have waited 2 years to see it...if it were better than what we got. They did rush it....but see, that's what I don't understand...how come DMC came out so beautifully and AWE was a mess. Why wasn't DMC a mess too...it's a wonder they even put the right stuff in the right film.

I think it's easier to write the second act of a story, which is what DMC is. The first movie introduces everyone, the world they live in, and the conflicts they face. By the second movie, you don't have to introduce anyone because the audience already knows them, so that's out of the way. Plus, it's easy to screw characters' lives up. What's not easy is to resolve the issue in a way that makes sense.

They had 3 years to think about what they wanted to do for the second POTC movie and they crammed so much into the first movie (in a good way), that there wasn't a whole lot left over. They could expand on whatever they wanted to and pass whatever amount of time they wanted. They didn't mess around showing us Will and Liz's engagement for example. They took us right to the day of the wedding. They didn't bother to show what Jack had gone through that year. We see him in the prison because that's where he knew to get the drawing of the key.

If you ask some people, they will tell you DMC is a mess, but it's very carefully constructed. Even the McGuffin (an element of the story all the characters care about but is meaningless to the audience) sets up an intriguing idea (what is in the chest and how do you get the key that leads to the chest). If you have a McGuffin, the characters have things to do and the audience can just sit back and watch the sh*t hit the fan. We know as soon as we've pieced together the story of Davy Jones' chest that huge problems will arise. Plus the story had a cliff hanger, which people like.

AWE does not have a McGuffin. The audience is too heavily invested in finding and saving Jack. So the first 40 minutes or so before he appears is slightly meaningless to them. The new location in Singapore is fun to look at, but it's unfamiliar so the audience feels alienated and begging to see a familiar face. We do see Liz and Barbossa right away and soon see Will, Gibbs, and the rest, but we have no idea what they're doing. Return of the Jedi made it very clear right away that the heroes were acting as part of their rescue mission for Han Solo. We don't know why the POTC heroes need Sao's charts right away. There's only one fight before they go to the Locker, too.

The Locker was a brave choice, but a lot of people didn't like it because it was so weird. Multiple Jacks was great, but it could have been better had they made it more clear that this isn't just a place where Jack went crazy: this is his personal hell. Then you have death after death, double-cross after double-cross and the characters become so two-faced you don't know what they have planned and you're not sure you like them anymore.

There are just too many set-ups. Barbossa prepares us throughout the whole movie for Tia to become Calypso, that she is a huge trump card. But once she becomes Calypso, the maelstrom just seems to mess up everyone. Her motives are never clear since she goes back and forth on whether she wants to be with Davy the most or get revenge the most.

Then the curse. DMC set us up for the curse, telling us Davy corrupted his purpose and never wanted to feel anything again. Will vowed to stab the heart. Beckett could somehow use the heart for his own purposes. But come time for AWE, the curse became convoluted. Why does someone need their heart cut out to be the captain? Why do they need to captain for 10 years? Why would Jack necessarily be bad for the position? What happens after the first 10 years?

I asked my mom the day after we saw it how she interpreted the curse and she gave me a funny look and said, "To be honest, I wasn't even sure why Will was the cursed one since it was Jack that made the actual choice to stab that heart." So there you go with that, too. If Jack made the conscious decision to stab the heart, then why is Will the captain? Just because it was his hand? There were just too many great set-ups that went without good conclusions.

Oy, brilliance and perfection, and loud applause... SOOOOO true about the massive preparation for Calypso turning out to be a flop. That, and the curse, as you said, truly are the biggest problems of the film.

What do you guys think would have been different in the third film, had they had another let's say 6 months or 1 year to re-film, re-work, and polish up AWE?
