And yet by that same token, trying to make Superman too "nolanised" will only hurt the picture. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, though.

Too true, although he does seem to know how to frame his villains. He didn't give Joker an on screen origin yet he pulled him off pretty well.

So Michael Shannon is set to play Zod... Got to say I am dissapointed, I was hoping Viggo was going to get the role.

Well, he is a quality actor.
I think Viggo could have had the role if he wanted; he's just preoccupied by other things.

Well I guess no Brainiac then???

I like it.

Don't know what to feel about Zod...again.

Me too. Quality actor. Brainiac still might be in this.

Snyder said something about Zod being his choice because he has insights into Superman that others don't (obviously this in reference to his history with the El family).

That's a good reason, only argument I have with that is that if you gave Braniac a Kryptonian background (the Coluan one doesn't resonate in live action for me) you'll achieve the same thing.

And unlike Zod, Braniac is multidimensional and can challenge Clark in more ways. Think of how great he was used under Bruce Timm in the animated series.

Zod has become more multidimensional in the past several years under Geoff Johns, Richard Donner and James Robinson, to where he has a legitimate vendetta against the House Of El.

I just wonder if this will have an origin from the beginning, or the Batman Begins method of starting in the middle.

Snyder should have kept Zod in the past.. However I hope the story is a good one

Yeah. They've been talking about rebooting Supes (getting away from the Donnerverse) yet they end up using Zod? As a fan you want the project to do great, but Zod is a retread.

I think they have to give us a bit more of an origin than what Donner's movie gave. Afterall, this is supposed to be Superman's year one. No point starting a reboot from anywhere but year one.

Krypton should get some screen time beyond just Kal El's ship launch. Certainly seeing Zod in Krypton will add something to the character, and further separate the movie from Superman 2.

showing zod going from good to bad would add dimension to the character.. much like sinestro in the GL movie, maybe..

Interview with the new Zod.

I never really knew about Michael Shannon until he popped up as an Oscar nominee for Revolutionary Road. I realize now I had seen him playing dimwitted characters in Pearl Harbour and 8 Mile, but never followed him from movie to movie. This might be the kind of out-of-left-field choice that once got Heath Ledger cast as the Joker. Shannon's got a hard looking face though; makes me think of a young Jack O'Halloran.

I am glad that relatively unknown actors are chosen for Superman and main villain, especially for Superman. If it was a big famous movie star it would be harder to see anyone other than the actor instead of the role.

300 and Watchmen are good and Nolan has some input so I look forward to it

he's flat out crazy in boardwalk empire, so i really think shannon will be good...

Awesome choice for Zod. Shannon is a damn good actor. This is shaping up better than I hoped.

why zod?

doesn't he have any other enemies beside lex and zod.
