Cool.

Man of Steel to be 'Edgy' Like The Dark Knight

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/170165-man-of-steel-to-be-edgy-like-the-dark-knight

batman and superman are kinda like opposite poles in a magnet.. that is why they are the "world's finest".. making superman like batman does not make any sense.. no point in having a super-powered version when a human kick-ass version will more than do.. it's not that superman needs to be changed, the audience has changed.. the people pine for the anti-hero, the vigilante.. no one ever roots for the blue boy scout because he's just that, a boy scout-- by the book, boring, follows the rules.. but that is superman.. he is faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall building in a single bound and he is square as sh!t.. people need to appreciate that..

with that being said, the studios need to make a good superman movie that clearly represents superman.. why can't they make another "superman: the movie"? mario puzo + richard donner + chritopher reeve = kick ass movie.. find the right equation and then we'll have one great superman movie.. kinda obvious..

Are you pleased or displeased by this?
I'm not that surprised.

It would very funny, if they feel they have to redefine Superman to be more like Batman (to fit into his universe better, somewhere down the road...?)...while Thor continues with his movie series, and the spirit of it is more like what the Superman films should be!

Displeased, but tbh, once I knew Nolan and Goyer were involved I was expecting this to happen.

Nowhere in that interview was it even implied that Superman, the character, would be like Batman. They just want to make him a human character, and Superman's "humanity" is one of his most important traits (Might of a god, mind of a man, etc).

There have been "edgy" Superman comics hailed as some of the greatest ever, like For the Man who has Everything. Very dark and emotionally powerful, but still definitely a Superman story. Keep in mind that it need not be the hero that makes the movie edgier and darker, but it could easily be the villain. Lex Luthor at his worst is a very dark character. Then you have guys like Darkseid.

Wait for more infomashunz.

Nope, this is definitely going to suck now for sure.

I understand they want to finally break away from the Richard Donner legacy, if younger kids consider it too old (to me it's still a landmark film.) And I know they felt that limited the appeal of Superman Returns (plus slow pacing and lack of action.) But still...there are limits they should push the Superman mythos into, for dark territory.

Number 1: Super Returns was a GREAT movie. Wish ppl would stop bagging it. Took me back to the early 80's when I watched the first two.

Number 2: Why is Superman going for a "realistic" look? TMNT is apparently going for the same realistic feel. Everybody wants to be like Batman. Batman is my fave Superhero since.....forever. TMNT and Superman need to exist in a fiction world. I really hope they don't botch the superman franchise. Always liked superman.

That was the problem with it. It didn't move forward with the times. To make a Superman movie come close to flopping takes some serious effort.

Indeed Marevl didn't make a Box Office success out of Thor by making it dark, gritty and realistic!

This is just further proof Warner Bros does not know how to do superheros on the Big Screen.

They have one success and think the key is to copy that formula for every superhero, not realizing Batman was created to be Dark. Superman wasn't.

It's been said from the start that to make Superman more relatable they'd have to make him weaker, which is bullshit in itself.

I would love for them to make it good, edgy, dark and relatable without completely ****ing up the character, but we'll see.

What exactly is the general plot-line of this movie?

I feel really shallow for admitting this, but that statement actually bothers me.

zod comes to earth, carnage ensues. that's all we know at this point.

in that you agree, or something else?

There is also a female super-powered/kryptonian villain, Faora. Don't know how involved she will be though.

I agree with you, yes.

See, IMO, Superman's awe-inspiring, godlike power is as much a character attribute as anything for Superman, since part of Superman's whole dynamic is the contrast between his deific power, with his human character ("In many ways, he is the most human of us all", etc etc).
