Okay so just got back.. This film is simply sooooo fracking good... excellent storytelling by Goyer and Nolan.. lots of action. great cgi.. Cavil is very charismatic, great screen presence.. Shannon was a sympathetic villain, IMO which worked because I felt sorry for him.. Amy Adams who at first I felt was all wrong did a splendid job as Lois..

"Notably, the 3D movie -- starring British actor Henry Cavill -- grossed $5.2 million in the U.K., pacing ahead of blockbuster Iron Man 3 to score the best opening day of 2013 so far. Man of Steel captured 70 percent of the market and performed on par with last year's superhero extravaganza The Avengers."http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/foreign-box-office-man-steel-569440
Looks like the OS gross should be crazy high!
Well, I started this thread on Nov 16th 2006 and at nearly 7 years later I finally got to see the movie I was hoping for way back then. Here are MY thoughts on the film...
I felt it was a great action movie if not so much a great "Superman" movie. Like others I had concerns with the "Nolan-Goyer-Snyder" take on Superman. In the fighting sequences I really do wish they would've written in more "Superhero-esque" traits for him. It's awesome that he's taking on the bad guys but he fights with little to no abandon, destroying everything in the battles wake. Civilian casualties had to be through the roof and that's just not the Superman I know. First and foremost his attention has always been to protect people. The Kryptonians were there for him and he could've taken the fight anywhere he wanted. Aside from the little regard for human life or collateral damage the action was solid and very entertaining. Especially Faora's scenes...
My only other beef would be the continuity of the film, there was almost no cohesion between scenes. One scene they are in an army bunker the next standing in the desert. One scene Jor-El and Lois sabotage Zod's ship the next Zod is landing on the Kent farm, I mean literally bouncing from scene to scene.. Even the flashbacks seemed to come out of nowhere, it was like a mash-up of scenes you would see in a trailer.
I understand what they were going for so the little to no scene cohesion didn't really bother me as much. This movie is a reboot of the franchise and as such has to fit in Superman's origin story, how he grew up on Earth raised by humans. How he becomes the Earths greatest hero and has to contain the action we were all promised. It almost felt like they were trying to compete with Avengers too much by having Superman's origin story and the action from the Avengers all in one movie. It's a very long movie and at the same time it felt very rushed. As a result the movie becomes convoluted and I found it hard to become attached to the characters, despite some rather emotional scenes that were really good.
On the bright side! The origin story is out of the way, Cavill is established as Superman and "Goyer-Snyder-Nolan(?)" can move on and create an entirely fresh and hopefully solid Superman movie/story. Developing the Lois/Clark relationship and taking time between the major set pieces and action sequences to actually build a story and characters that resonate with the audience will make it that much more enjoyable. They have the action down, now to get everything else up to snuff.. Which I think they can do and I'm looking forward to it.
Overall 7.5/10 - Definitely worth the admission and it beats the piss out of Iron Man 3. Plus, it's freaking Superman...
I did not regret my purchase, as its still the Superman franchise, but dude...that was not Superman.
I came out of that movie depressed.
If you wanted to go in just to see great fight scenes, you'll be treated to ONE great one, so I guess its worth it in that regard. But if you went to see the greatest fictional character of all time triumph as only he can, then you will not have it in this movie.

Faora, Lois, even Lara...beautiful women they got cast for the movie. But yeah, I'd smash Faora 10/10 for a good death being its own reward.

I wasn't sure at first, and apparently neither was Zimmer himself, but he really did a good job with the score. I was to happy to see and hear people cheering and clapping at the end right after
Spoiler:Without sounding corny or anything, after leaving the theaters, I felt like doing something important with my life for the benefit of others, so to that end the movie struck a chord with me.
Clark joined the Daily Planet and the theme played in earnest.

A 'suck on that' to all the envious of machoman haters out there.

On a different note, I'm really curious how they will do Wonder Woman. Her mythological based origin will be almost impossible to fit into the "grounded" world that MoS created.

Will they do WW?Would love to see Diana *_*
Faora was such a badass. Badass + super powers + Sex Appeal = Win
Wonder Woman is hard to do, however it just takes a good writer to understand the material
