Superman: Man of Steel

Finally saw this tonight and what a steaming pile of crap. I'm sorry, but this movie was horrible and I was really looking forward to it. Besides Cavills actual portrayal of Superman, I cant find any other redeeming qualities to it. It was way too long for one thing. I've never wanted a superhero movie to end so bad in my life. What was with the camera work too? I thought I was watching the Blair Witch Project for half the movie. There was no sense in that at all. Adams as Lois was also horrible. She might as well have been reading from queue cards because that was one of the most vanilla performances ever. Why did they even kill off Jor-El in the beginning since he was in half the movie anyways. Dumb. I thought Superman Returns was bland and average at best, but the MOS makes it look like 'Gone With The Wind' in comparison. Again, I apologize to anybody who thought this movie was any good because I have no idea how, but its a definite bottom feeder for me.

Not sure if serious.

Just watched it with a couple of friends of mine. I'm not sure what to say. The actions was obviously very very very good. The characters/Actors did a nice job as well as the story itself.

Spoiler:
I loved the sci-fi feeling the movie tried to present. The idea with the world-eater machine (or did it have another name). Loved the plot of the Natural Birth, controlling powers, Johnathan's deaths..etc. Yet, there was something missing in this movie. Neither me nor my friends can explain it, but feeling like the scope is too wide with little interaction with other characters.

Any ways, I give it a solid 7.5/10. The movie theater I went to was showing about 65-75% of it's room for MoS only, yet it was all full of lines...

Get out.

So...am I the only one wondering why Krypton's sun looked more yellow than red?

😂 I noticed that too.

They did say it was an older sun, though.

Even worse! When our sun ages another few billion years and starts to die, it will bloat into a red giant.

Actually, what I'm starting to think is: it may not be the color of the sun which matters in this movie (after all, how many times have debates popped up in KMC around red sunlight being essentially the same as yellow sunlight? Maybe that discussion was had in the making of MOS). It could well be that the age of the star was the relevant factor, our younger sun putting out much more power (eh, more/less). This movie took a few liberties with the basics (eg, different atmospheres having their effects; red-haired Lois).

Ok. Now I feel better.

I can't go to the extent that you did, but I've never been more disappointed in a movie before.

Probably because I've never had as much expectations for one before.

But damn, this movie, like Mark Waid said, barring one scene was utterly joyless.

Just saw it for the second time last night, I think I enjoyed it more the second time. Probably because my expectations were so high the first time. I could actually sit back and see the movie for what it is, a great Sci-Fi action flick and a mediocre everything else flick...

I'm hoping that because the origin story is out of the way the next movie won't be as disjointed or convoluted. Hopefully they spend as much time on the dialogue and story building as they do the action. I have high hopes for the next film, the cast was great.

All right. Had to ask because comparing MoS's camera work with Blair Witch project was a little too much.

He may be referring to a gripe I've had regarding use -- or rather, overuse -- of CGI in many movies. When the fighting begins, and the POV is flying all over the place, I often find that more exhausting than entertaining (as an example, compare the Kong vs T-rex fight scenes in the Peter Jackson movie with that of 1933). However, I have to say, with MOS, I did not get that exhausted feeling. Imho, they hit the right balance.

I never get that problem from CGi, so I can't really relate. However I'll take your word for it.

saw the movie, thought it was great. finally someone updated the character (like i previously suggested).

for all of you butt hurt about how supes handles zod i suggest you google:

the death of superman
superman #22

or

watch superman 2 ending (donner version is not canon)

Spoiler:
in superman 2, kal was already dealing with a "humanized" zod.. if you wanna talk about an unnecessary superman kill, that was it.. zod could've been arrested and jailed, maybe shared the same cell with lex..

shannon zod was not depowered like stamp zod.. shannon zod is willing to fight superman to the death.. he was already killing the humans with the terraforming.. snapping shannon zod's neck was justified.. throwing depowered stamp zod into a seemingly endless pit, i dunno..

Saw the movie 3 times over the course of the weekend...I liked it the first time, the 2nd and 3rd times though, I loved it. To me, this movie had great action and a lot of heart.

Saw it last night and loved it! Probably going to go watch it again here soon!
