Say what you wish, people are getting sick and tired of these things getting free and attacking other children. I really don't think it will be as hard as you think to drum up support for this. And politicains are that hard to convince, give them something they want and the words "yes" just roll off their tounges.

Yes I believe I did. Say what you wish, we will get this done.

Actually, In the last federal election up here get tough on cirme as a hot button issue.
In Canada right now we have what is called a Minority Government, meaning no party has enough elected members to pass their legisation. And one of the bills that all the partys have pretty much agree to let through is a bill getting tougher on criminals and stricter sentences for them.
The worse and more frequent these criminals become, the easier it is to get politicans and the public on to the idea of getting rid of them.
I see what Starhawk means, though. I mean, America has the death penalty for murder, whereas Canada doesn't, and our homicide rate is ... uh ... over three times as high as Canada's. Well, you know, Americans are a bunch of thugs. Not a fair comparrison. A better comparison would be to consider Canada's homicide rate. Canada foolishly abolished the death penalty, and their homicide rate ... dropped. Well, uh...
But that doesn't mean anything! Let's compare murder rates between states with the death penalty and states without the death penalty! That will clearly show that ... that states with the death penalty have had higher muder rates then states without it every single year since 1990, and since before then, as far as I know. Not a small difference, either--practically 40% more murders.
Okay, let's try something different. I want you to clap your hands three times and repeat after me: "I believe in the death penalty as an effective deterant. I believe..."
First of all, I know it's not about deterence. It's mainly about your petty vengeance fantasies, but I wanted to give you the benefit of a doubt.
Second of all, we have the death penalty in a vast majority of our states: Thirty-eight out of fifty. I know your arguments aren't only about facts, but try to do better.

I see a disturbing lack of sympathy on this thread for the victims and lack of concern for the future victims of repeat offenders.
Try looking into the eyes of a child violated by one of these things.
Try looking at the pain and suffering of the families of murder victims.
They are the ones I care about, not the monsters that caused their suffering.
Originally posted by StarhawkYou missed that point? Let me explain it to you, if in the states that has capital punishment and it worked as a deterrent then the murder rate would have gone down, if you killed off the people that committed the crimes then the murder rate would have gone down but it didn’t so that disproved your theory.
They are dead at that point, how can they commit the crimes again?

no, all you care about is browbeating about it on a movie forum so you can feel better than everyone else....and you're a law student. you've already made a joke of this thread, and now you think you're going to forbid people from joking?
Originally posted by StarhawkIt has nothing to do with a lack of sympathy at all or seeing through the eyes of the victim, you have already stated that this is law and not justice so you are already contradicting yourself. Are both crimes horrible and cause so much pain and suffering the answer is yes but the punishment should also match the crime. I would rather have the person that raped my child or killed my child live the rest of their life in prison then having the quick out of death, I would relish in the fact that they have to live out the rest of their life without the freedom of doing what they wanted and living in the hell hole of prison.
