April fools joke, for sure. The date on that is April first.

The first clue that that was a trick was James saying he started on the script before the first film was done. He never said that. He said that he was thinking about it and wants to write a script.

👆

Anyone plan on buying the DVD for this? It comes out this Tuesday. I did love the movie, but not sure I could sit through the entire thing again, especially with it being non 3D.

So, to be clear, the release for the DVD coming out this week is a bare bones with just the film?

Is the big release in November just stricly a Blu-ray? Or is it a DVD as well?

Depending on the special features involved, I might just get the bare bones disc.

I'll add that they are advertising the DVD nonstop it seems on TV. The picture in the advertisements look astounding so.......

I might have to get this.

Hi guys i am new in this discussion and i love to chat about movies i hope i am in right community.

James Cameron's Avatar is really a fantastic movie to watch out. It has a very nice story with a power full animation and sound. It has a beautiful place like pandora. The graphic and quality is really wonderful. The designs of vehicles are fantastic. It has shown a the navi's who are always ready to save each things on their planet. All these things are beautifully shown in the movie. I like it very much.

Welcome to KMC.

I've made my thoughts on this movie clear already. Won't be buying it.

It's better than Kick Ass. 😛

Kick-Ass was miles ahead of Avatar.

I couldn't agree more. I could actually see Kick-Ass one or two more times, and I know I'd enjoy it. However, with Avatar, there really isn't anything about it worth revisiting.

well I saw Avatar here in the UK

first in Real 3D (not IMAX)

and then some weeks later in good 'old 2D

did not notice much difference in the experience, although i would definitely say the 2D has better PQ specifically in terms of no motion blur during panning shots, and contrast

the movie itself?

hmm....

its got "Cameron" elements - definitely the first 15-20 minutes which I can watch again and again (I am watching the start this evening at home 😉 ), and random pieces throughout which have his signature qualities, including the final battle

but its my least favourite, Cameron film, and that is saying something as a big Cameron fan....

Did either you two see it in IMAX 3-D? I agree that it's massively overrated, but so was Kick Ass IMO.

Avatar was alot more engaging. I wasn't too impressed by it's action; hell, I might even say that Kick Ass had better action. But the visuals of Avatar pwned.

I saw it in a theater, in 3D, not in IMAX however. But I doubt it'd change my perception of the film.

Avatar's narrative and characters were both piss-poor, unengaging, uninteresting, etc. After I got over the beauty of the planet (which took about 30 minutes) I found myself bored by the uneventfulness and predictability of the story.

Avatar was more engaging? I disagree wholeheartedly. There's nothing there to engage with.

Kick-Ass offered a highly entertaining, subversive comic book story that delivered a new take on the superhero mythos, with plenty of awesome action, memorable characters (Hit-Girl), a far better script, better acting, better everything but CGI.

In summation, Avatar had better-looking visual effects (technically), while Kick-Ass kicks its ass in literally every single other department.

The visuals in Avatar were great, but still nothing we haven't seen in recent movies of the past. To me, the visuals in Avatar were in the same ballpark as Naboo, and other environments we saw in The Star Wars Prequels, where everything looks cool, but not necesarilly real. You can tell it was CG animation. The 3D novelty wears off quick for me as well.

In Kick-Ass, they relied mostly on good ol' movie making to entertain it's audience. The music, the editing, the timing, slow motion, and the fight coreography were perfect. So many movies strive for that balance and seem to fall short. I was completely engaged with Kick-Ass, obviously more than most people here who saw it, but to me Kick-Ass was far better than I expected. It was the only movie that has come out in a long time that did not let me down. It shocked me how good it was, and what an amazing job they did bringing Hit-Girl to life.

Another thing about Kick-Ass is that they didn't once try to please the general public with a pg-13 rating. The movie was rated R, and they never sugar coated that.

Spoiler:
The guy exploding in the giant microwave oven, the dude who got crushed in the car crusher thingy, Hit-Girl calling the bad guys c*nts,
it was the type of stuff I haven't seen since movies like the first Robo Cop came out. Movies like Kick-Ass just don't get made like that anymore. Some try, but rarely is it as well executed as Kick-Ass.

The comic is way more adult.

It was dulled.

Comparing Kick Ass to RoboCop? Interestin comparison. Both have very brutal violence and humor throughout the film. The villains in Kick Ass can't hold a candle to Dick Jones, Clarence Boddicker, and ED-209 though.

I have decided that Avatar is complete bullshit. No way does s Marine turn his back on his own like Jake did. He's a ****in Marine, FFS.
