What's So Bad About Hudlin? Really?

If you see it that way then yes. But I'll not sit here and explain to you the reasons why I like Black Panther.

No, just a realist.

Seriously, you can sit here and Seriously tell that lie. Im gonna tell you like this. My family or my country, Im always siding with my family kid.

the black panther as written by priest was a distrusting, dismissive and, at times, arrogant jerk. but his character had layers. his plots had intrigue and were written in such a way that the action played perfectly off the dialogue and ross' narrative. sure, some of the stories were weird. black panther's whole crew in the wild west fighting alongside some version of thor? but they felt right, t'challa was unbearably badass in the most underspoken way, and the stories were as readable as can be.

as written by hudlin, he's been completely zapped of his personality. he feels dull, his plots really amount to him "winning" by default half the time, and none of the interesting tidbits hudlin tries to throw in come across as interesting. they, like this "cure for cancer" crap, come off as overly-boastful, out of character and generally lame.

THAT'S what's so bad about hudlin. really.

I have always said, throughout the entirety of this thread that Priest work was better then Hudlins. In fact, I think its a hell of alot better, His run is what got me hooked on T'challa.

To me, Hudlins run isnt all that bad, again, not as good as priest but decent none-the-less.

What really is baffling is if Hudlins run is so horrible as people say, then why is the book averaging around 30k-50k comics sold a months, A long ways better then the 15k during Priest run. Strange.

Here is a word of Advice for everybody and I'll say it again......

If you don't like his run, there is a very simple solution...STOP READING IT (I hope you guys are reading it by the way, because if your not and your commenting on something you never read or seen besides a few scans then that is well, pretty sad)

there's an expression in "showbiz," that says "no publicity is bad publicity." the intended double meaning being that even "bad" publicity isn't bad. there're offshoot sayings like "no news is bad news," etc. same thing.

aside from the various tie-ins that have been carrying black panther for the ten or so issues, the general want to "see what everyone's talking about" can also affect sales to the opposite of fan reaction. i'm not saying there aren't people out there enjoying the book; i'm just saying numbers can be deceptive.

so if i have a different point of view than you, i'm a liar?

i guess in a sense, yeah. I'll shop for the "brother" man instead of the "other" man (it's my money, I buy what I like. Which often translates into something i want, need, or can relate to). In a sense i feel like if I don't support him, who will?

I've been reading comics for 20 years, and i feel like it's the first time i've ever had a real choice for a Black Hero. All sorts of writers do unpopular things.

bottom line, I'm willing to see were Hudlin goes with this (Up is the goal. By any means necessary).

Well, I already know that you only care about the color of a character's skin.

What about all the white writers that suck? ermm

They're so numerous that if we were to give each a thread of their own we'd need another forum.

...

Well that's my guess...

On another note I have to wonder about some of the black posters takes on certain characters/other writers takes on things.

As some of the forum is well aware, and anybody observant enough to read my posts my favorite character is Jubilee. Now in the course of rereading her story somequestions popped up for you guys.

What did/do you guys think of the character Synch? Everett Thomas.
What did/do you guys think of Jubilee's interest in Synch? (even in the house of M world)
What do you guys think of Shane Shooter?

I'd certainly be interested in your thoughts on the matter.

Oh, when I think about it, I actually like Hudlin. IMO, he isn't that bad.

It's ok if you don't get it. Consider it a "Black Thing" 😛

CHECK.

Been reading comics for 20 years (back when hey used to cost a dollar, and the only "Black" character to look up to was Storm (bigup CC). We didn't get titles like "Cage" at Stars & Stripes. and the way the Black Panther and the Falcon were writen back then in the Avengers made me cock an eyebrow as a kid, and throw up in my mouth as an adult) .

read my earlier posts.

and to that I'll add: the older I got, the more I saw when i moved back to the States, the more jaded and realistic my views became.

Synch was DOPE. I liked him, and was angry when they started phasing him out
and quit f'in with Gen-X alltogether when they killed him.

I never had a problem with him and Jubes or any other mixed couple in the MU. (Jubes & Everet = Suge & Prodigy the reason i quit another X-book )

But how many Black on Black super couples are there in the MU?

(you get three guesses, and the first 2 don't count)

I'll help you out: 1, yep, 1

Oh my dear lord, there's not enough black couples in the MU. The entire world is coming apart!

How many asian couples are there?

Maybe they'll marry off Sunfire and Jubilee... because they have so much in common obviously.

Yeah, the important thing isn't that their personalities match, but the colour on their skin.

I mean isn't it completely unfeasible that two people with different skin colour would marry each other? Those wacko writers who paired Storm up with Gambit and Wolvie oughta be shot 🙂

Dont care about couples. I just want there to be enough decent black male superheroes.

Exactly.

Or hispanics or eskimos or interracial couples.

Hudlin wants people to let him be an ass because he's an "activist" but since he ignores all the real minorites to focus on blacks he just a racist and nothing more.

Well I dont think hes a racist for focusing on blacks. I would like to see more minorities but im primarily concerned with blacks because.....im black. What makes him an ass is that he makes everybody racially motivated.

Stop "hating" and start "participating".

Maybe?
