I agreed with this part.
ex. Ross might have made it easier for "other" people to follow the Black Panther without feeling threatened by his dominance.
ex. in my opinion, Jean Grey was given the Phoenix to compete with Storm and make her more interesting. That also meant that Storm would no longer be the most powerful person on the team.
ex. Spawn is a black character, but then again he isn't (being burnt beyond recognition and being dead makes him a Zombie/monster. who apperantly is easier to relate to than a black character.) Bigups to Todd for even making the attempt and creating an awsome story at the same time.
However, "Universal Appeal" struck Spawn as he whent from Comic to screen
with them casting a "Universally Appealing" actor instead of a Black Man to play Terry.
Or, casting a "Universally Appealing" Woman to play Chapel (who they turned into Priest) for the sake of a wider audiance. (Say it aint so Todd. Say it aint so.)
Marvel tried to give black comic fans a "make up call" when they cast John Coffee as the Kingpin, and the black lady for Alicia Masters (i wonder if she'll be black/back when the Surfer Rises)
But, in my opinion it was a wasted PR move. Don't change characters to fit the demand. Create intelligent, well thought ou characters to fill the demand.
and then, don't depower and or kill their ass.
