Big Tobacco might have some "side dealings" with some pharmaceutical companies. We live in a capitalist society, and there's no money in "cures".

Profit is a two way street. Why "cure" lung cancer when you can milk it. Let's face it Tobacco isn't going anywhere. They will get their money regardless. The people who stand to lose out are the Drug companies / research and development projects run by Tobacco companies. Who all make money on "Treatments", not "Cures".
