Im gonna hold off on placing it as far as my alltime faves, because it took San Andreas a long time to start becoming so good, it was well into the 2nd of 3 cities. So im still kinda waiting for IV to start throwing all the "HOLY SHIT" moments at me.
Yeah, I've gotten a few.
It's a very well made game and improves the game in all aspects from the previous games.
But I'm getting a big case of deja vu with this game. For now, its easily the best game I've played this year, but I'm still not seeing why every reviewer is jerking it off so much.
My friend isnt a big fan of GTA games because he's in the category of that GTA does alot of things but doesnt do them well and I'm getting that from this game also. Every is done good, but no minigame, or aspect of the game is done extremely well.
I think a lot of reviews are scoring it so high just because of the incredible depth. I played all day yesterday but I dont think im even a third of the way through the game yet, because I did alot of the relationship stuff and online last night.
They took a huge game that has always had some minor problems that people over look because of the amount of things it did do right, now pretty much all of those minor things have been ironed out(combat). And the old GTA games always got 9-9.5 just on single player alone, now they added one of the biggest console multiplayer modes I have ever seen.
So far, this game certainly isn't worthy of the perfect scores it's gotten, it's by no means perfect or totally different than the previous games.
That said, one thing that the game does amazingly well is creating an amazing and wholly believable and alive world unlike anything else I've seen in a video game. That aspect is just stunning.
I loving multiplayer. Favorite modes: "Deathmatch" and "Cops and Crooks".
I haven't even played the single player mode yet.
You can't top live multitheft auto in times square with auto aim off, no cops in medium traffic.
GTA4's has become my favorite game now. Don't remember my last fav game, it's been a long time. And i see nothing else topping this liking for a while. Force Unleashed and G.O.W. 2 has some comp.

The atmosphere of the game is definitely an achievement. Rockstar, in my opinion is the best at creating a vividly immersive environment. Everytime i play a game by Rockstar i truly feel as though i have connected with the designers art direction. GTA4 is no exception. I do not believe i have played a game where the environment is so inviting and full of potential.
The game play is not the most smooth. The hand to hand combat is still clunky and pointless. The gunplay is a bit smoother and with the addition of an easy to use cover system has become more engaging. The driving is probably going to be hit or miss with people, but like all other GTA games it is done well.
I have only been playing this game for a few hours but i can already tell that much care has gone into its design. The story is actually engrossing and made all the better with fine voice acting. The more realistic design has become a character of its own in this game.
The biggest problem with the game is that it is not any different from the previous grand theft auto games. I have not noticed any attempt by the designers to take a step forward in advancing the game play or making the player more apart of the story. Although, this is not a problem that warrants much complaint when you consider that the gameplay is still just as fun and the mechanics have been tweaked. I guess if you are going to have a problem, being addictive and fun is a good complaint to have. This is a Grand Theft Auto that utilizes the next gen power and gives us a very fun game with a beautiful facelift and slightly better controls. I am still waiting to see more interaction with the pedestrians and story. This is one series that would greatly benefit by introducing some more RPG elements.
Whoo...this is the most disappointing game I ever played. Seriously, I've read these reviews and was expecting so much more but what I got was pretty much just a bigger version of GTA3 with some additions here and there. It is by no means a bad game...I just fail to see what the hype is about. This game offers nothing new that hasn't already established by either previous titles or by other games.
It would seem they only added in the cover system due to the success of Gears of War. GTA4 does nothing to establish itself from the previous titles just like many other games have been doing (Halo 3 and Super Smash Bros Brawl come to mind). It's not a bad game don't get me wrong but I fail to see what makes this game so perfect. I'm even reading reviews where the reviewers actually have reasonable complaints to the game such as unresponsive AI at times and avoiding the police is too easy.
And here's what really makes me ask why; none of these reviewers even had a copy of the game. They played half an hour or so at a hotel room or some place. I would actually have thought they would have to play the game to give it a review but here they are pretty much putting there entire decision on basically a demo.

What are you talking about? They played through the whole game.

Well so far in this game Nyko is more appealing than Tony or Carl. So, I'm giving this GTA the edge over the previous ones.
Who the hell is Tony? 😛

This is game is definitely no Assassin's Creed (first and early reviews giving it good scores). They got to play through the entire game to make a review, I wouldn't know for sure, but most talk about the entire experience of playing the game, some mention the
Spoiler:as well as some eater eggs, and that's something you have to experience....
two endings

That last bit isn't true at all. From what I understand the reviewers had a full week with the game before writing their reviews. It certainly wasn't based on an hour in a hotel room.

Im liking the story more because the characters. Niko is incredibly easy to like, not a thug like the previous 3 stars. And you get a lot of the missions you get are from characters friendly to Niko, which makes it more enjoyable for me.
Been playing for about two hours...and yeah, the character is likeable He is growing in me faster and more than the previous main characters in GTA history.

Yeah, thats my only thing.
Same with Assassins Creed, I dont understand how reviewers are giving this a perfect score.
It's a great game but their is obvious flaws to the game and its not revolutionary at all. I only say this because the game is rated 99% at Game Rankings so I'm expecting that the game will be amazing, with no flaws or glitches and will be influential for years to come. I dont see that happening at all. Heck, the cell phone thing was taken from Saints Row, but did a bit better.
Ast, yeah, it has depth but so did the other games, but the depth doesnt necessarily mean its good. They took away my favourite things to do. They taxi missions are gone, pimp missions and ambulance missions are gone too. The car service jobs for Ramon isnt the same.
The minigames that I have played have been lackluster. I'm not going to play them again unless I have too.
Overall, great game but definitely not the best game of all time, or one of them.
