Dont get me wrong. Its a very good game.
Just undeserving of the scores its getting.
But thats critics. They review countless of games and when one game does one part of the game thats amazing, they look past the flaws.
It happened with Assassins Creed, and its happening with GTA4. Both have amazing worlds, but in my opinion, the gameplay is stale. GTA4 has a living breathing world, but after the 20th mission, its all the same.
I found SA to have alot more variety in missions, and more interesting ones too, while in GTA4, its turning into alot of find people, than chase them with a car, or run away from them in a car.
Yeah I feel like it was the realism that really killed this game as well, Campaign I thought had the best story so far but what is there after that? I mean I can only get drunk with everyone so much, I liked in SA that they had territories, I was hoping for that in this one as well. I thought the characters were better and some other stuff was but as I said realism killed it, I didn't buy GTA for realism, I bought it to cause mayhem and how am I expected to do so to its full extent without a tank, or a cheat code making pedestrians insane, or pimps walking down the street, or hookers out at all times of the day everywhere, not just slutty looking women, when I got this game I thought there was something wrong I was honking at all these women because I thought they were hookers but no they were just sluts.

I think a lot more could've been done with the mafia storylines in this game. The mafia characters we did get were kind of boring and rehashes of other characters.

Brucie is funny but can be annoying while Ray is just straight up annoying. I once tried to blow up his car but the rocket bounced off his car and onto mine which nearly killed me. I even tried shooting his car and it's like it's invincible or something.
Spoiler:
You get a mission later where you have to kill him
Yeah, I know, I just wanted to get that little red message across the bottom of the screen. I once killed Brucie with a shotgun, it was ****ing hilarious. I did it on the mission where he wants you to go get the car for the race. He put his hands up for me not to shoot him a second time but I kept blasting away.
i liked bruce, well, i liked that i hated him, because i've met people like him, so he seemed real...
while the replay value and other activities were a bit on the weak side, i did think the bowling was a great addition (though i don't remember if SA had it), though i did hate the lack of planes... flying planes was probably my favourite feature in SA...
one thing i will say though, i absolutely loved the missions in GTA IV, alot more than i have the missions from the other games... i love shootout/assassination missions more than anything (i loved [spoiler]the french tom one, putting six rounds in him while he's sitting in the booth and watching him slump over), and the fact that there were so many of em kept me happy...
i just wish there'd been more of em... one thing i have to add, too, is the huge improvement in physics i think gta has...

I kind of like the fighting GTA IV and how other characters can just start fighting out of the random. I just wish more people would have shoot outs instead of it being me and the cops all the time, like in SA.
i saw a few random ones, in fairness...

The mechanics of GTA4 are the best out of the series.Fighting is good, gunplay is good and they way the city is set up is good.
Its the content that is below the SA.
pretty much...
