Putting it all together...spoilers

I'm trying to wrap my mind around who stole the ship and why. We've been told it was Barbossa, but is he alone?

Savvy, I don't want to rain on your parade, but I don't think that Jack is telling all this to the strumpets because he's decided that he loves Elizabeth and is going to run off with her.

He's peeved because his ship is missing -- AGAIN.

He even says so. He's almost livid over his SHIP.

Now, I will give to you that there is a slim, slim, slim possibility that it's because Jack has finally given up pirating and he has matured to the point that taking a romp with the ladies-of-questionable-occupation is no longer what he is interested in, and that he is ready for a deep, fulfilling relationship with one woman.

HOWEVER...he makes a note to point that all his lies to them pale in comparison to the fact that his ship is missing. So I'm somehow thinking that unless Elizabeth is the one who steals the ship (and since this probably occurs at the end of the film, we'd have to assume Will and Elizabeth have totally and completely parted ways and that Elizabeth is PERFECTLY FINE with that), Jack is simply angry because his ship is gone.

I still have a headache, so sorry if that post does not make sense. 😄

You're maybe half right. Sorry about your headache, I have a headache meself since last night.

Jack just had it. He has the strumpets all over him, his ship is gone with Elizabeth(possibly) in it.

Savvysparrow showed an interesting scene with Barbossa and Elizabeth in the pearl.

I'm not sure where it fits in. Sounds like the end of the film, but it may be that she's given him control of the Pearl during the final battle. We do see him at helm.

Eh, what the heck, I'll post it any way. There's no harm in that 😉

And I'm sorry you have a head ache Surreal. As always, you're the voice of reason reminding me to see the other side of things. I appreciate your voice 🙂

643A EXT. BLACK PEARL - COMMAND DECK -DAY
Elizabeth at the wheel. Barbossa looks uncertain, lost --

Elizabeth
Barbossa! This is what you wanted, isn't it? The world as it was, no deals, no bargains -- your fate in no hands but your own!

Barbossa looks at her ... straightens, strides to the wheel. Rests a hand on Elizabeth's shoulder.

Barbossa
(not a command)
Step out girl.

Elizabeth
The Black Pearl is yours.
She steps aside. Barbossa grips the wheel. grins turns it hard --

Barbossa
Aye, men, let's have at her!

This scene is like the ending scene of CotBP.

But why does Barbossa seem so lost?

Because he grew a conscience. He knows it, Elizabeth knows it as well. He's become more like Jack in that he realizes that "there is what a man can do and what a man can't do." And I don't think it will sit well with him that Jack sacrificed almost everything and subsequently lost his ship. Purgatory has a habit of changing men--look what it did for Jack. I think the same can sort of be said for Barbossa. It's softened him.

Also, I love the relationship between Barbossa and Elizabeth during the course of the film. They actually work surprisingly well together, given the nature of their relationship in COTBP. He understands her true nature and admires her for it, even if he still stabs her in the back on occasion.

Also, Gibbs is the only person who ends up with Jack. So this means that the rest of the crew are with Barbossa and Elizabeth.

So Barbossa and Liz steal the Pearl? Why? Not to start shipping here, but I don't think Liz would let Barbossa do that. We've seen Jack work hard and long to get the Pearl and this is way too much like the end of COTBP. I didn't think they would want to end it the same way they ended their first movie, but we'll see where it goes. I sense that even though we'll feel like it's the end of an era, there will be further adventures featuring all our heroes that we just won't be able to see.

I don't know. Like I said earlier, the scene is taken out of context, so it's hard to know where it is that it fits into the movie. It could be earlier in the film, but it sounds like something that happens in the last part of it.

"The Black Pearl is yours."

That's Anna Maria's last line in COTBP and subsequently it becomes Elizabeth's line in AWE. It doesn't seem like something they'd throw into the film mid-movie.

What will happen to the Pearl. The Pearl has gotten through so much crap like Jack.

It makes me wonder on why was Gibbs the only mate that was with Jack at that moment?

The whole thing is really tricky to figure out. This sure is a big tease.

I'm fairly certain the Pearl will probably go to Barbossa. Jack has to give it up in order to get his life back. It's like Norrington giving up his concept of what made him honorable because he discovers that's not what is honorable about him.

Jack's story is the same way. He believes he knows what freedom is, but he'll have to give up that false concept to discover what it really is.

I think this is the moment when Jack stops 'acting' for once and becomes a man.

What moment are you talking about?

I think we'll see shades of that through out AWE. For sure we'll see it in the scene where he has to help to dispatch Will. Also, I think he'll probably have to face Beckett again sometime at the end of the film, so we'll see a very different side of Jack there too.

you know what i posted last night, was really not that much different than what Surreal posts..about will and liz but I don't see her getting cursed out...but it really doesn't matter....

I wasn't being negative, okay....maybe I was..but none of that matters...i have done some soul searching and I've finished reading the novel, and I'm happy with what I've read, and I think the movie is going to be fantastic no matter how it ends. It's all okay, It's Pirates of the Caribbean and all of the characters in this trilogy are awesome...

I'm sooo happy that Jack and Will are going to be working together again, I love that...just like at the end of POTC

One of my most favorite parts in the novel...don't know how to highlight..

SPOILER (straight form the novel)

Will slumped. He knew it was all true. He knew that saving his father meant condemning himself to an immortal lifetime as the Dutchman's captain. He knew that it meant he could never be with Elizabeth.

"I'm losing her, jack." Will said unhappily.
"Every step I make for my father....is a step away from Elizabeth."

For so long all he had wanted was her affection. For ten years he waited for a sign that she could care for him. And then Jack had arrived, and despite the rather dramatic events that followed, it had been worth it. Elizabeth had opened her heart. And now all of that felt so terribly far away. Then, he remembered the man standing beside him. In a low voice, he added, "She was willing to do anything to save you."
"From the fate she consigned me," Jack pointed out.
"She felt terrible about killing you, " Will countered.
"yes, she's a prize, that one, "jack said, rolling his eyes....(LOL)
Studying Will, a thought came to his mind. Perhaps he could make all of this work to his advantage. "What if there was way to avoid making the choice at all?" he asked, his eyes gleaming. "Were someone else to dispatch Jones...that would free your father, just as sure as if you had done it yourself?"
"Who?" Will asked, confused.
Jack cocked his head. Seeing Will's confused expression, Jack spread his arms and made a "tada" gesture.
"You?"

a little later:

"I get aboard the Dutchman," he outlined eargerly, "I find the chest, I stab the beating thing. YOur father goes free from his debt, you are free to be with YOUR CHARMING MURDERESS (LOL), and I am free to be with the seas forever." he grinned. It really was a rather fantastic plan.

then a little later:
"Trust is an elusive thing, "Jack said, "but he needs must go when the devil drives, eh? " He pushed something into Will's hands. Will glanced down and saw Jack's famous Compass. Jack continued, "Here, be sure to give Davy Jones my regards."
Will looked up again, puzzled, but his expression turned quickly to surprise as Jack shoved him over the side of the ship.

Ha yeah, I like that part too. It's really similar to the way they worked together in COTBP. Also, I crack up everytime I see their faces on the clips from AWE when they're being traded for one another. You know that they're playing it up for Beckett's benefit.

And the difference between Surreal and you Tiger is that we expect Surreal to ship W/E. That's who she ships and she's been consistent with that from the beginning of KMC. I think Mina and I were a little frustrated with the people shipping J/E who are suddenly abandoning ship when there really isn't a need to. It'd be one thing if the movie were already out. Then I would say, yeah go ahead and jump, here's a flare and a life jacket.

But since we don't know, I'm having a hard time reconciling myself to the people who are freaking out. But to each his own, I'm glad that you've made peace with the film and that at least you'll go and see it.

I hope you know I wasn't chewing you out. 🙂

I meant this very moment. That Jack would stop acting--in the stumpets scene. That he becomes honest and 'for real.'

Oh, nevermind lol.

It's simple folks, either your in the ship or out. Surreal is in her's, each on their own.

But if you start to have doubts, get out.

Ok Tiger! 🙂 Understandable. We all have moments of doubt and weakness. Keep your chin up and let's let by gones be by gones.

I actually like the book on all accounts. The themes that T+T are trying to draw for the characters are really clear. It sheds a lot of light on the pieces of the script we've seen so far.
