I somewhat doubt that the movie is based entirely on existential themes. And I already know basically how the movie ends; I don't think Will is going to be making the decision that you seem to think he is, although I admit there is a small possibility that they would go in the opposite direction.
Basically, I think that Will and Elizabeth get married. And I think that Elizabeth will choose to wait for Will, even if he suggests to her that he deosn't expect her to wait for him.
I can't view the kiss as anything other than Will and Elizabeth confirming their feelings for each other in the middle of this battle, when they might be killed, so I find it hard to believe that if Will survives, even as Captain of the Dutchman, that Elizabeth would simply walk away.
I also don't think that she would end up with Jack because Will leaves her behind despite her choice to stay faithful to him. If the writers did that I would be severely disappointed, because although I am not a big fan of Jack Sparrow, I would not want him to be 'second' because Elizabeth couldn't be with her first choice.
But that's just me. I could be entirely wrong, of course, but a logical conclusion to reach is that Will and Elizabeth are going to end up together, in some form. I think it's important to remind yourselves of that, not to be mean, but to keep yourself from being too disappointed and disillusioned when the film comes out.
Oh, and Savvy, I did read the novel, but I don't enjoy existentialism and I don't really 'get' philosophy in general, so it's hard for me to view the novel in anything other than the most straight-forward of terms. 😄 Perhaps I'm totally missing something here, but I think I'd almost be disappointed if the films were based solely on some vague philosophical view instead of just being a fun film. 😄
I don't think no one would be dissapointed. I'm pretty much staying in my ship wherever it goes. Whatever happens, happens. Just a movie. And for those who are just having so many doubts, well, don't bother seeing it. As simple as that. Again, just a movie.
All I can really say for now is wait for May 25th.
^^^yea, well, that's what i'm saying too...it's just a movie and whatever happens happens...I'm still shipping jack and liz but if it turns out as you say Sureal, than so be it...it's only a movie, and it's going to be a great one.....with lots of great Jack Sparrow moments...it's hard for me to believe that anyone could be a big fan of the POTC Trilogy and not really care for jack, but that's just me...because Jack Sparrow is Pirates of the Caribbean......i know, i know..it's not just about jack, yada, yada, yada...but without johnny depp playing jack sparrow..this would have ended in 2003...
