Putting it all together...spoilers

Here is the still of Jack right before he says the now-famous (or infamous?) "keep telling yourself that" line. The link doesn't have great stills of Liz and like someone said, she just looks tired, and she should be tired! How much has the girl been through up to this point and she's probably just been called out on killing Jack. She's not in the mood to flirt, but she's not being completely honest with him, either, and he can see right through that. Look at his eyes there. There's no real anger at her anymore. I think he's over that, just a little hurt.

GASP! QUESTION! I know I've asked a lot of dumb questions lately, at least ones that can be answered right after I ask them, but a big one came up on me.......does Jack even know Will and Liz are engaged?

He leaves them at Port Royal and doesn't see or hear from them (to our knowledge) until a year later when Will goes looking for him. Will never mentions he's engaged or calls Liz his fiancee (I don't think). All he basically tells Jack is that Liz is in jail for helping free him and he needs the compass so she can be released.
Later, we wave goodbye to Will and wave hello to Liz and she also fails to mention her engagement or call Will her fiance, and they don't say anything about the wedding they missed when she and Will reunite later. So.....would Jack even know?

Yeah, I think so. Because Jack was talking to Davy about Will and he said something about seperating from him and his marriage. I can't remember the exact lines. Im sorry about that. I hope it helsp.

OMG OMG u are soooo right? I dont think Jack knows!! So when Jack purposed he must have thought the whelp hasnt taken advantage!! OMG!!!

so then my next guess is that Jack has been Keeping tabs on those 2! right? how would he know otherwise?

no he knows, if you watch the scene in DMC when dvy and Jack he said have you not met will turn, "Have I mention he is in love, due to be Marry"

ah yes...Jack was keeping tabs...how else would he have known that Will and Liz were engaged, due to be married, ....and don't you know he is just estatic at the thought that they didn't tie the knot...thus his little "proposal" to Lizzie...as far as he's concerned...Lizzie is fair game...she's not married, yet.....he's thinking...here's his chance...maybe, just maybe that marriage didn't happen for a reason...becasue fate intervened....and Jack can feel her attraction to him..he's no dummy....especially when it comes to women''My intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled"

Maybe as soon as Jack found out about the wedding thats when his compass started going crazy on him....like he wanted to go back to Port Royal and stop the wedding but at the same time he didnt want too!!

It's a movie. There has to be a willing suspension of disbelief. I.E. Beckett is a good super villain, he's been watching and plotting his attack for some time.

Beckett is really smart...First of all everyone knows the legend of the flying dutchman even norrington knew about it when Jack and lizzie were talking on the Docks of tortuga..Also if you look at LIzzie reaction every time he mentions Jack's name it's almost as if she is trying to protect him in every, when they stop the wedding and the way she Said "Captain Jack Sparrow" and Beckett just look straight at lizzie. He knows that there is somethiinig in lizzie with Jack, now the question is will he use her to against Jack as his weak point...
