It's a toss-up for me. Jack's biggest underlying fear is actually commitment. He views the conventional life (marriage, career, law-abiding citizen) as constraining so he breaks away from it. Anything that makes him compromise his time and/or efforts isn't worth it to him. His fear of death can be roped into that because death would pretty much get in the way of his freedom. But then there's Liz. Sigh. Maybe it's just the J/E in me, but I really do think she scares him. I can see him having nightmares in the Locker of her being tortured or something, seeing her suffering. They probably won't show anything like that but I bet he's thinking of her a lot.
Awe...
Liz is a big step in his life. It makes him nervous and rather happy at the same time. It's an unknown feeling that he thought he would never have and never wanted to experience.

Believe me, if there was a picture of that, it'd be on the thread for us to pick apart and analyze. Well the trailer premiered on the West Coast in English....What do you guys think?
By the way, the two people in the water appear to be Will and Elizabeth.
favorite line from the trailer, when Barbossa gives that dribble about there never being a gathering like this in his lifetime, and Jack saying "and I owe them all money..."
When Elizabeth and Jack are having their little convo, in the russian trailer it looked like Elizabeth was being more coy and teasing.... but hearing her voice, she sounds dead serious, like she has made some sort of decision in her heart, even though it doesnt sound like she likes that decision very much.
a few other comments.
Will's line "Will you marry me?" has the phonetic emphasis of a "I'm going to do such and such but i can/will only do that if you do such and such so WILL YOU MARRY ME?" it isn't like he's just randomly asking her in the middle of the battle-- I'd bet money that proposal was preceded with "I'm going to stab the heart but I won't leave this world without marrying you... so will you marry me?" or maybe he hasn't said that to her, but that's what's on his mind. the question seems to imply her answer will be the base of a decision he is about to make. it's not an emotional/heart moment--- its a decision/action moment.
Jack seems weird--- tired, weird. Maybe they just put a bunch of weird lines of his were put in the trailer, but he sounds sick/drunk/exhausted in all the lines I heard, like he was struggling to get them out.
for as dark/intense as those movie posters were, Jack doesn't look serious at all... he looks the same hilarious self, but in the midst of everyone else being extremely dramatic and unfunny. so maybe, as garbocat suggested, they will be phasing out Jack's interest in Elizabeth early. (i agree that they'll have to if they plan on having W/L end together in a way that works).
Interesting comments, Kate. I found Jack's speech a little different, too, but not in a tired, weird way. He seems to have found a dryer sense of humor, but being dead for a while will do that to you. He's even more cynical than he was before. But not all the lines are like this, especially "Keep telling yourself that," and "If I wasn't [mad] then this would never work." Plus, if you watch the Good Morning America clip, Jack is full of energy there. Don't worry about him.
Question and this doesn't concern Liz per se, but Jack says at one point he doesn't want to sail with them because 4 of them tried to kill him and one (Liz) succeeded. Okay, I definitely see Will, Barbossa, and Liz there. Will fought him in both COTBP and DMC, Barbossa marooned him and then fought him, and Liz was the one that finally killed him. I see Tia, Pintel, and Ragetti also in the crowd, so who is the 4th he is talking about? Norrington's tried to kill him, but he's not there is he?

aww...Kate..I will be so disappointed in this movie if they phase out Jack's interest in Elizabeth...that's what makes the movies so exciting....and as far as Jack seeming weird...well, he is...he's not himself throughout most of the movie...remember he shoots his good, honest side...but I just know somehow his good, honest side will return....they have said that if we thought Jack was mad before...just wait til we see what Purgatory did to him.....I did find Johnny being very abrasive and harsh with his lines in the trailer...but he still has a touch of comedy to him.....
Okay, so last night I was all fired up about Jack and Liz..and now that things have settled down and I've watched the trailer a few more times...I'm actually a little nervous....
True, Liz isn't necessarily being coy, but I wouldn't put her at being dead serious, either. Her tone is very similar to her smugness during the curiosity scene in DMC. She's not really baiting him, but she's definitely trying to get under his skin and he just oozes sexiness in response. Who can resist that?
Well, and you'd imagine that if Elizabeth said such a thing to Norrington or Will, they might cry or demand why. Jack, on the other hand, throws it right back in her face with that grin.
Sorry Lovethemtigers, I am not meaning to be negative, just trying to deal with things and sort them out as they come. I would rather have Jack's interest in her phased out than him end with a broken heart... but of course, i would rather rather see them together! haha.
So would I, but I don't see phasing out as an option right now. They made it very clear in DMC that even if Liz doesn't love him, he loves her by the end of it. She is what made him go back and fight and he couldn't help but admire her even as she was killing him. I think he's mad at her, but I don't think he's over her or is going to get over her very quickly. Remember there is a whole year between COTBP and DMC and he spent one night on this island with this girl and can't get her out of his head. He's not the type to get over things quickly.

i put this on the jack's past thread, but it accidentally turned into trailer commentary so i thought i'd stick it here...
I believe Tia tried to kill him at one point... I dont know if that's Jack assuming the jar of dirt was a dumb idea, or what. lol. maybe a break-up spat?
Pintel and Ragetti both tried to kill Jack in film 1... drawing pistols on him in the cave. but that's poor counting if he meant both of them, and i really don't think Jack views them as human entities--- I don't think he would bother mentioning them here. i think it's Tia.
Will's face when Jack says "did no one come to save me just because they missed me?" is priceless. he gives this snort like, what the hell does that have to do with anything?!?
the set- up on the trailer is interesting. question--- did Disney do the trailer themselves? or did they have a sub-company or private contractor put it together? because some of the links seem really meaningful--- "a pirate's life for me" while the Empress sails in the background may be forshadowing, the compass spinning followed by Elizabeth's face insinuates that she is actually the one who has no idea what she wants.
the shot of Will with his arms on that thing, looking like he's been captured, i believe are in Singapore, when he gets "captured" (makes a bargain with) Sao for Jack's life... if that's still in the script. he's wet, and the story went he was pulled out of the bath. if you check the wicked awesome clip of the swords coming through the floor, Will has his arms on that thing in the background.
the thing Jack's messing with--- the round map thing with the turning parts, maybe that's some sort of astronomical "green flash" indicator he uses to get them back... lol.
the shot of the W/L kiss, i didn't notice the first time (but you all probably did) the kiss continues to the next shot-- in the middle of the battle, they are still kissing in the background. just to play devil's advocate, you wouldn't stop in the middle of an intense sea storm and battle to kiss someone who you weren't in love with. my opinion of course. there are fish dudes all around them. here's my theory: Will has asked Elizabeth to marry him so he can stab the heart (don't know what the connection is there, but i heard that's part of it... could be wrong), things are going from bad to worse, fish dudes have invaded, and Elizabeth shouts across the battle, I will or I do! they run in for a kiss, heart stabbing ensues, the tide turns and drama continues. lol. but this doesnt jibe with the Will-gets-wounded-so-Jack-brings-him-the-heart theory completely.
for all you romantics out there, frame-by-frame that kiss, because Elizabeth's foot pops.
the first shot of Will after the "Orlando Bloom" thing shows him re-aiming a pistol, a little tease for that scene where everybody has their pistols pointed at each other, which ought to be hilarious.
so is the rumour about Jack the monkey burning down singapore true? Cause while they are sailing away, Singapore is definately up in flames.
Tia is wearing the locket, BTW. in both shots of her.
When Jack says that "one of you succeeded in killing me" bit, Elizabeth avoids Will's gaze (typical Will angry/confusion face), and immediately looks at Tia... why? Did Tia already know? Or is she afraid Tia will strike her dead? Meanwhile, Barbossa is looking at Elizabeth with what looks like to me pride/admiration/respect. wink
why the heck does Norrie only get 1 tiny moment in the trailer?
the other two pirate lords look amazing... no teague?
