In terms of overrall all character arch, I'd say that in this film we'll see Elizabeth jump the gap between late adolescent and adulthood. She's grapling with the consequences of what is essentially an adult decision--taking the life of another. That's a tough decision to make! Think of comparing her behavior in AWE to soldiers who return from battle. They're psychologically distraught for the most part. Fortunately she can right the fact that she's taken a life, but there's no protecting her from ALL of the consequences.
She can take care of herself, but she's been got out of some fairly sticky situations by the adults in her life, including but not limited to, her father, Norrington (think COTBP, he could have forced her to marry him if he really was cruel about it), Jack, and Will. They've all watched after her if not directly, at least from a far.

CHIKI! Yay! Glad to have you back. I'm in midterms right now too, so I understand your pain.
It feels great. I couldn't wait to sign on KMC. I know I have a lot of catching up with theories and spoilers.
I recently was thinking about Will's desiny. Its pretty complexed the whole thing and tricky.
Will made that sword for Norrington, true, that the owner is Norrington and we canot overlook his character. But, Will made that sword with all his dedication--James said it himself.
Notice on how Davy has hold on the sword Will made. Makes you think.
