Ha, Surreal is going to have a field day with this and tear it to shreds, but I really can't see how the compass could work any other way, other than to point to material objects.
Though, the writers have said that the comics aren't accurate. Where did the writers of the comic get their interpretation, I wonder?
SAO FENG
This is the thief. Is his face familiar to you?
Both play it cool: neither have ever seen him before. Sao Feng studies them, shrugs -- and picks up a huge FID --
SAO FENG (cont'd)
No? Then I guess he has no further need for it.
He prepares to stab Will with the fid -- Elizabeth tenses -- Sao Feng spots the tell. His pleasant demeanor is gone.
SAO FENG (cont'd)
You come into my city, you seek my indulgence and largesse, and you betray my hospitality? You betray me?
BARBOSSA
Sao Feng, I assure you, I had no idea --
SAO FENG
-- that he would get caught.
Sao Feng stares. Barbossa shrugs: yeah, okay.
SAO FENG (cont'd)
You intend to attempt a voyage to Davy Jone's Locker. And i can't help but wonder: why?
Barbossa tosses something to Sao Feng, who catches it -- a SILVER PIECE OF EIGHT. Sao Feng examines it.
SAO FENG (cont'd)
A piece of eight.
(looks up at Barbossa)
It's true then?
BARBOSSA
Aye. The time is upon us. We must convene the Bretheren Court.
He bangs twice on the wall. No steam.
SAO FENG
More steam!

heh heh, unless you want a giant vagina spitting up on you, I'd resist calling him. 😄 We could call Tia. She could give us some crabcakes and an undead monkey at the very least.
Ha, awkward visuals on the Kracken. 😘 Thanks, I'll never see it in the same way ever again.
Well, actually, we haven't really discussed Jones much on the spoilers page. At least, not to my knowledge. Maybe we should have at him? Minus the Kracken.
Er, just a quick question. I know that there is a lot of symbolism in these films, but when did a Kraken's mouth become a vagina? Who thought of that, and what scary world did they come from that a vagina has teeth?
Abstract thoughts and theories are sometimes waaaay out of my grasp, so someone either explain it to me in here or in PM, 'cuz it doesn't seem er...complimentary. 😛
lol, that's LovelyOne's fault, Surreal. She said that's what it looked like to her and every time I watch it, I don't think it looks like that, but I think about what she said and it makes me blush. Eeeww. I thought people were still around that remembered that. Oh, LovelyOne. Do come back and explain how you came to think it was a vagina again.
I think I get it actually, which scares the living day lights out of me. I read an essay by a film student, not Lovelyone incidentally, analyzing the film from a Feminist persuasion. In that anaylsis, they say that the Kracken is a female symbol and Jack's sword is the male....You put two and two together. This isn't a health class...Anyway, that's probably where the idea came from.

The Kraken is dead.So to move on with Davy, what WILL happen to him. Eventually, he will die. But how will his death come about? And how will Calypso react?
Ok, well we know Davy makes it through the movie up until the climatic clash between Pirates and the ETTC. Having his heart abroad the Dutchman makes him feel emotions, which he HATES.
Somehow, somewhere Calypso is released, so it makes me wonder if they ever get a reunion before he loses his ship to Will.
