Well, without going too much into shipping, it is an interesting choice how Johnny and Keira chose to play their scenes together. I know they're taking some direction, but they have some freedom in what they can do. Johnny and Naomi had the same freedom to devise a backstory for Jack and Tia. I think the actors know their characters and even though we may not get everything they do, every single inflection/look/twitch what-have-you is a conscious decision.
Eh, I'm pretty sure there is a bit of misguided understanding on all the quotes. I don't remember the exact posts preceding Terry's (I think) statement on the waffle, but no, it wasn't just about the compass. And I don't think Terry was speaking about the fact that the compass pointed to the waffle AND the delicious meal.
He was talking about how Elizabeth was delayed in getting that delicious meal, and she happens upon an interesting waffle. The context of the statement, therefore, leads me to believe that he is talking about Will and Jack.
He's talking about what wanting means. You can want something in a moment, but that doesn't mean that it's your heart's desire. It means that if you're hungry and you find an interesting waffle, you might try it...but that you still want that meal.
It's up for debate. The other quote would take way too long for me to discuss, and since Mina has declared it all resolved, I shall withdraw from this particular discussion, since continuing is like beating my head on a brick wall (only more painfull). 😉
And one last note; the way the actors played out the scenes is again open to opinion. 😛 I didn't see Elizabeth and Jack's scenes together as anything other than Jack constantly flirting with Liz, and then Liz returning the favor and realizing that she's waaaaaaaay over her head when it comes to charming, and the Kiss of Doom was not hot.
Elizabeth was too aware of everything going on around her, was trying so hard to keep Jack distracted, and Jack was enjoying the moment but puzzled. It wasn't a sincere kiss, there was no joy or happiness to it. There was anger mixed with regret, but it lacked that happy lustre for me to make it anything more meaningful than a kiss of betrayal, and that really doesn't turn me on. 😉
Ok, so now I got my opinion out on shipping, what else can we talk about?
Ah, Willo, missed your post about the compass.
The scene they're talking about is on the Pearl, when Elizabeth looks at the compass. It was meant to only waver slightly from the direction of the chest, and start to turn, and Elizabeth was suppossed to close it before it pointed to Jack.
Gore was probably the one to change it. Why? Because it generates more interest if there is a love triangle. It's a smart move to draw out discussion among the fans and to keep people intrigued, because now the romance has become more interesting.
Unfortunately, it isn't a smart move when it comes to people who look at all these clues or take shipping so seriously. 😄 It leads to dissatisfaction because some peole will feel misled.
If what Terry and Ted said was correct, that the compass never stops pointing to the chest for Elizabeth, then the scene was played incorrectly on screen by the director and Kiera Knightly. I get the sense that this is one issue that TnT probably wished they had more control over.
Yeah,let's not argue about shipping.Still I'm not ashamed to be a Sparrabether.If i feel so,I will discuss things about it.It won't change the thing that I like Will,as many other characters in the movie.AWE may end a Willabeth,I still be thinking (without arguing) that Jack and Elizabeth are better together.I accept other people's different oppinion though,Just let me think what I wnt. 🙂
