My rating? And NOT spoiling anything:
It is .. different, and they don't try to mask it but embrace the difference - at the same time, the characters ring true, there are a LOT of nods to fans of the shows, movies and books alike (in fact, if someone were to ask me to list all the nods to fans they made, I couldn't even list them all .. there are SO many), it's exciting, atmospherically dense, has few (no blatant) plotholes and feels like a great stab at something new and exciting.
10/10 from me.

And no, he does NOT say James Siberius Kirk. He might slur the s from James a bit over but it is clear from the very beginning that the name is, and will be, James Tiberius Kirk in the whole movie 😛

I'd toss your salad to have seen it, jealous, I am.

Did they have Klingons? If so, old style or new?

*chuckles* I'm sure it contains tons of stuff die-hard fans could pick apart, and I'm equally sure it will be picked apart relentlessly. For me though, it delivered and I fell for the new look and the 'new' crew hook, line and sinker. I'm not saying it is the very best movie ever filmed and put on celluloid, but it gave me all I want in a Star Trek movie, more than I expected (yeah, I had those fears it might just .. not live up to my expectations) and hit all the right notes.

Spoiler:
there are no Klingons that I saw, only Klingon ships

Can't wait to hear everyone else's opinions come Friday .. (even if I know I'll once again be annoyed when haters and fans alike start taking potshots at each other that don't hold with rules of common decency and respect 😛 But .. oh well .. I guess it's easy to hide behind the web's 'anonymity' and just let 'er rip in discussions. /rant. 😉 ) ..

Just came back from seeing this movie and i liked it, best Star Trek movie in years and i'm a fan of Star Wars

9/10 from me.

Woot 😄 The first one to share the opinion with me that it was great 🙂 And I definitely agree, best Star Trek movie in a looooong time.

They must have purposely avoided that, even though the retcon explained it well.

Maybe to avoid the Trekkers and Trekkies from doing an online blog shit-storm.

Looking forward to this Friday.

Ya know .. I did spoiler-tag that for a reason - some people might not have wanted to know the reply to your question .. which .. you basically .. gave away by your response post. Aren't you yourself complaining in the X-Men forum that people use too little spoiler tags? 😬

I went, I tried to like it, I hated it more than I've hated any movie before.

That's too bad .. want to share what you didn't like, with spoiler tags maybe? 😉

And what exactly did I spoil?

I referred to the subject at hand as "that", can't get more ambiguous, than that. 😬 😬 😬

His response in no way ruined anything. I didn't read what was in the spoiler tags until last as I read this thread from the bottom up. In no way did his post mean jack shit until I read you spoiler tags. Not even by a stretch of the imagination did his post mean anything...it was an ambiguous reference to something you mentioned in the spoiler tag. (Yes, I'm aware that Robtard, Earlier, asked about

Spoiler:
klingons
. Oh, and, "Siberius."

*shrugs* ok. Hope everyone who read it felt like that.

I just think in a thread that discusses stuff from a movie most everyone hasn't seen yet, you should err on the side of caution and use one spoiler tag too many rather than one too few. As I think Robtard would agree with me, seeing his adamant argument in one of the threads about the Wolverine movie. But .. like I said .. if everyone feels like that, then all's fine.

Then I ask again, what should I have put in spoiler tags?

Surely not the word "that".

😱

Spoiler:
not that!

LOL

It's all right. Like I said, people have no problem with it, then why should I? 🙂

Listen, if I spoiled something, I'll be happy to apologize, as spoiling movies for other people is shit, imo. I just don't see where I did.

Anyhow, going to watch this tonight, heard on the radio that Kirk

Spoiler:
bangs the green chick (an Orion) in this one too.

Like that's not a spoiler. If he didn't, now that would be a spoiler. 😆

Guys, for a movie that only came out today, spoilers are required, regardless of what they are.

I will post a review later tonight or early tomorrow

I've seen it yesterday night, it has finally been premiered here, and I must say even when they changed a lot in ST universe, they are coherent in the changes, and I must admit JJAbrahams did it great! much better than Lucas did on SW prequels, or more recently in X-Men Wolverine.
The story is good, the action is good, the characters are great! and also the ships. Lots of nods to fans, and great music.
Best thing, I think that from this film on we can forget Star Trek: Generations, the movie that was never supposed to be made. And even if it may not provide a link between Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: TOS, it's a great history arc.

Saw it last night; thought it was great. Probably my favorite movie so far this year. And the way they set it up allows for however many sequels they want.
