Simply put, I meant that it was the best movie I had seen in a long, long time. Lots of action. lots of fun and a few nice call backs to the original series that I watched back in the 60's. You dont have to agree with my assessment but in my opinion it was indeed "wicked awesome." As far as Im concerned the ONLY other Trek film that competes with it is Wrath of Kahn which up to now has been my favorite but I think this reboot is going to surpass that.

Unlike some on this forum, I will not tell you your opinion is wrong simply because it isn't mine or facts are or are not made up because I didn't think of it first. Thank you for responding. I would personally list several of the earlier movies higher on the scale than this film. However, I do agree the movies that follow this one have the potential to top most of the other films in the franchise. Now that the laboring effort that had to go into this film in order to explain skews in the timeline and alternate realities has passed, then the crew can get down to the business of being the crew of the Enterprise. Personally, I don't see a need to alter the explainations and insert the notion of an alternate reality in order to reboot the original series. Recast the crew; upgrade the look of the technology; explain how the crew came together, etc. I understand it was likely done to preserve the world set forth by the original series and that cast's movies, but as much as I love the actors who played that crew, I understand the need to update the franchise. It wasn't a lack or abundance of action that disinterested me; only the amount of unecessary effort put into retelling the story in another timeline. Basically this is my only issue with the film.

Well if the only issue you had with it, Mr.Knaves, was that( An issue you would have to admit is a very "each to their own" sorta thing), then it speaks well of the movies quality overall, eh? 🙂

Guys, please keep talk like that off the forum. Thanks.

Uh, Robtard was joking, dude. It's like when Mel Gibson said, "NO! I will not go out with you!" when his uptight boss didn't even ask.

I said I enjoyed the movie. I also said that it was a personal opinion and that everyone who had one contrary or similar to mine was justified. She, and everyone else too, paid for their ticket and are entitled to their opinion of the film. I'm certainly not going to suck up four or five pages arguing the logic of this or that plot point. Not everyone is as well-versed in Star Trek as myself and others are surley more familiar with it than I am. I have the odd piece of merchandise and I have most of the movies and TOS and TNG on DVD. But, I've never read a ST novel and I've never dressed up to go to a comic book convention. I'm simply saying I think the movies that follow will only get better now that the brow-beating effort of explaining this isn't the exact same crew is out of the way. Overall I think it was a quality film, yes. I also think that a lot of uneccesary effort went into it, and it shows.

There were also several logical mistakes in the film...which detracts from the movie.

Have you seen shooter? You can't ran in front of 3-4 dudes firing their automatics at you, and not take a single hit.

Also, you can't expect an unshielded mining vessel to destroy an entire planet because it, for some reason, is left completely unguarded and defenseless by one of the most powerful military forces in the known galaxy. As Sarek said in TNG Generation episode "Sarek", "ILLOGICAL, ILLOGICAL, ILLOGICAL!"

Fair enough. 🙂

Helllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooo

I loved everything about the film.

I used to watch the old Shatner series when I was a kid and they'd show repeats on BBC2 (UK). I loved the adventure, slightly swashbuckling aspect of those originals.

I tried getting into the more modern series but to be honest I got really bored! The only STar Trek movie I've ever sat through fully was First Contact.

This new film was ace. I've liked all of Abrahms output so far. I love Lost, think Mission impossible III is one of the best action movies ever, and I really liked Cloverfield! So naturally I liked this.

It has everything, witty dialogue, comedy, fun, action, drama, never takes itself too seriously while providing a wonderful spectacle.

It reminded me of Joss Whedons Firefly in places. Fantastical events happening to belivable, likable characters. Always a good thing.

Okay, so I finally saw Star Trek 90210 yesterday...and even with adolescents in charge it was still a fun flick. The only character I really didn't like was the skinny, shapeless, Beyonce-wannabe playing Uhuru. Nichele brought a quiet dignity to the role (hey, comes with age) that maybe this new one will grow into it.

Of all the revamped Enterprise designs, I like this one the best. I'm glad they steered away from the overdone surface/hull detail which has been trendy for so long.

i've just seen the new star trek movie, and i thought it was epic. true to say there were many things i could knit pick at, but because Abrams has changed it the way he did, i can't really complain. he didnt leaving anything open when it came to changing the history...he covered over the edges nicely.

I thought Star Trek seemed familiar. lol

HAHA! that made me giggle. But to be honest, there's not many original plots you can come up with really. Everything's been done already. Apart from maybe murderous space cats that live in the planets core and eat nothing but cardboard and sausage rolls...copyrighted that plot by the way, before anyone thinks about stealing it lol...

They had stolen Borg technology.

Seriously.

Seriously.

I don't expect you to read the whole thread to find that I made that same exact point. Voyeger used Borg technology as well. The Borg Tech, as far as the comic can tell us, allowed the ship to heal itself...but no other "powers" from the Borg are present. And the rate at which the vessel heals is much much slower than a real Borg cube.

I speculated that it was repurposed nannites.

Let's take a moment to savour this film's victory. Today, after another solid week it became the higest grossing film of the year so far, and the first Trek film to break $200 million in North America. 👆
I know it may likely get passed by another film(s) this year, and we have to look at inflation to compare to the older films, but it's a great milestone. This will be the biggest hit film in the series, and probably do the best overseas of any of them. When both critics & audiences love a sci-fi/fantasy film, it's a great thing.

I think that because its a ship from 300 years in the future from the period the film is set in, the weapons couldn't do much...see, it's logical, and not an ounce of speculation involved - just common sense.
