Thank you, Dr Phil. 😛
Karnak's sort of a gray area character. It's technically a skill, although I don't know if having a extrasensory ability to sense weak points should be considered a MA skill, and he does do amazing things with the ability. But at the same time he's been beaten by other MAs in the tier he's in now iirc?
In regards for the martial artists being more "fancy", i do think that means more skilled in a way.
In martial arts, wouldnt "fancy" = technical?
Example: Someone can knock out their opponent by punchnig them in the head 3 times, yet another person can knock out their opponent just by touching a spot behind their ear and knock them out.
The touch is much more fancy and also requires much much more skill than just punching someone in the face 3 times.
Thats just my take on it.

Prime example of fency does not equal more skilled is ulitmate fighting. Chuck lidel( how ever it spelled) is one of the best fighters in the world and he not fancy at all.
Fency looks better, but it not. Pressure point fighting for one is hardly ever seen in mix martial art's you wanna know why? it ineffective and hard to use since well any trained martial artist will block it.
also pressure point fighting is mainly used becuase it allows for a person to know weak spots on the body.
Most mix martial artist that fight in ultimate fighting ring's don't look fancy for the most part, becuase fency is a waste of time. Something may look really cool, but that does not make it better.

Anyone in comics do Ultimate fighting? Cause thats what im mainly talking about.
I say that cause there are people in comics (namely Daredevil) who use pressure points in fights like a regular punch is thrown. He can fight by using nerve and pressure hits rather than throwing a punch.
Wouldnt you think that was more skillful than just throwing punches? Especially if its done against someone or people with high or better than average martial arts prowess? On a regular basis especially?
You don't see pressure points or Capoeria or etc. in real fights because it is ineffective for the most part. However, if someone WAS able to do something 'fancy' effectively, I'd say that would make them more skilled than someone who did something 'basic' effectively.
Even if the basic fighter may or may not be able to beat the 'fancy' fighter.
It isn't exactly ineffective, just escessively hard to use when you have some 250lb jock trying to tackle you. A swift elbow or knee to the face is much quicker and effective for that scenario.
Chuck Lidell would be far from one of the best fighters in the world, UFC and most US shown MMA sanctioned events don't allow a lot of techniques. Comic books don't have that problem so they can depict a lot more of the "fancy" things that arnt usually done in real life scenarios.

That's kind of the definition of ineffective. It's hard to whip out a handstand heel kick if the other person will go for something simpler, faster, and more effective.
In comics, however, managing to pull something 'fancy' definitely implies a higher level of skill. Just because you managed to pull it off, whereas it'd be damn near impossible to do so in real life.

Thats what im saying.
I wasnt reaslly trying to imply real-life fighting technique and skill here for the reasons stated.
In comics however, the fancy technical stuff makes a person seem more skilled imo.
