If you cannot trust the Bible as the Word of God then how can call yourself a Christian? How do you know that you are a Christian? What do you base this on?

The thing I have found funny about people who "take the Bible litterally" the fact that usually, they all have different views of what "taking the Bible litterally" is.

For example, one guy I know (who "takes the Bible litterally"😉 is of the camp that the death penalty should be used on, not only murderers, but Homosexuals, Witches, fortune tellers, Adulterers and prostitutes.

He states these beliefs as the litteral words of the Bible by citing the passages:

Exodus 22:17
Leviticus 20:13
Leviticus 20:27
Leviticus 20:10
Leviticus 21:9
Romans 1:24-32

However, I know another guy who also "takes the Bible litterally" who has another view on these things.

His view is that, it is God's (not man's) death penalty that will be placed on these people. And by God's death penalty he means the not being granted the gift of eternal life in Heaven. For his beliefs, he cites these passages:

John 8:7
Matthew 7:1
John 3:16
John 11:25-26

And one guy I know of who "takes the bible litterally" completely ignores the Old Testamant. I don't know him personally, but he comes down and preaches (read: rants in a confused and nonsensacle fashion, and is easily lead off of his point and made to look like a fool) at my college.

This guy (though I don't know the verses) believes that this list of people are all going to hell:
People that play or watch Football, or any other kind of sport.
People who wear shorts and short sleved shirts
People who do not cut their hair in what he consiters a respectable hair style
fat people
people who watch movies (or atleast movies like Harry Potter, Twilight, 007, Spider Man, Jurassic Park etc.)
People who play video games
People who aren't in the church any time the doors open.
People who listen to Rock and Roll
people who smoke
people who drink alcoholic beverages (whether they have ever been intoxicated or not)
Democrats
etc.
On a side note, that list has condemned me to hell 6 times, and that's not even a full list, and I am often consitered a religious and conservative nut case from time to time.

So tell me, who really is using a literal interpretation of the Bible here?

OH! and you can actually look up the last guy on Youtube. He is known as The Louisville Lunatic.

But to be fair, Bro. Rick is apparently a nice guy when you talk to him 1 on 1. He just gets really fire and Brimstone when preaching.

I take literal what is to be taken literal unless it is obvious that it should be understood metaphorically.

Much of the book of Revelation is symbolic imagery with a spiritual import.

But that leads to the idea that you are not blind, and that just isn't the truth. The way you interpret your mythology is wrong. I may not be able to understand the true nature of reality, God or whatever you want to call it, but I can see very clearly that you do not "know". It is not possible for you or any other human to "know". We are all subject to the same rules. There is no such thing as hidden knowledge, and the true nature of reality cannot be written down. Therefore, the bible cannot be the word of God, but is in fact the word of man. The god of the bible is on equal standing to the Greek gods.

I disagree. I believe that I am not blind and that the Truth has revealed Himself to me.

There are promises in the Bible that guarantee that I can know the Truth and that I can know God. I continue in His Word, I am a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, I know the Truth and it has made me free.

You keep calling the things of God mythology. But you have no evidence that the things of God are mythology.

I am not subject to any rules that you are subject to because I no longer belong to satan. I am not his child anymore. I have been delivered from the power of darkness. I am in the kingdom of God now. I have passed from death into life.

There are only two types of people on this earth: those who know Christ and those who do not. Those who know Christ are born again the Holy Spirit bears witness with them that they are children of God.

The Bible is the Word of God.

You continue to speak blasphemy concerning Who God is. I advise you to check yourself.

I'm more Christian than you ever will be, and that has nothing to do with worshiping the Bible, going to a church to listen to some douchebag priest look down at us, and a man on the cross that did so much that no one in the church will ever fully realize. Those that go to church fear the Higher Being, and are demons in society (applies to majority, not all). They repent in order to make sure they have a safe parking spot in the heavens. I never need to repent and ask for forgiveness. I'm living a moral life. If that's no acceptable, then nothing else matters. I'm a Freemason, I donate money to organizations that help people that have been abused, and I volunteer at a Shriners hospital. I'm majoring in Biology in order to TRY to make a difference in this world (medical student, but i'll probably get into the research aspect).

You are far from a Christian, and probably far from a decent human being. You'll wake up one day and realize this, I hope at least.

Others that post here, even the atheists that many look down at are moral people that are doing something for a progression in society, anything that will benefit humankind.

You cannot be more of a christian than me or any other believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are all one in Christ Jesus.

I do not worship the Bible, I worship its Author: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

I do not go to church to listen to a priest (you are confusing Christianity with Catholicism and they are not the same).

You can live a moral life all you wish but if you are not born again through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, then you are still in your sins. You must be born again in order to become righteous in God's sight. It is Christ in you the hope of glory. Christ comes to live in you when you become born again and He makes you a new creation (spiritually).

Good moral works are not sufficient to save you from Hell otherwise the Lord Jesus died in vain. You must put your faith in Christ Jesus in order to become righteous not trust in your own good deeds because those things do not wash away your sins. Only the shed Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ can take away sins. Hence, your good works are useless because they will not save you or make you righteous.

Why you feel like I am far from a christian is your prerogative. I make mistakes just like you do, but my heart is right. I do not intend to hurt your feelings. If I have done that then I ask you to forgive me and I will make every effort not to deliberately hurt your feelings.

This guy does a great job of explaining the sin problem and how good works cannot save you from your sins or from Hell.

Nope.

I just believe that if Shakyamunison's statements are applicable to others then they must also apply to him.

I don't believe any of it though.

How is your heart right, but not the rest of us. These others are decent human beings, probably more moral than both of us. How are their hearts not in the right place?

A scenario for you:

A man, a paramedic, follower of Zoroastrianism, has saved many lives, and has given so much too the community. How is this man's heart not in the right place, but you who sit behind a computer shoving your religion down others throats, have more heart? He believes in a religion that is far older than yours, and that contains scripture that makes WAY more sense. Answer me this.

And no, this is the internet, you must be superficial to have your feelings hurt.

Yeah, and those trees have the chlorophyll to undergo photosynthesis. What i'm asking about, is how do the ones that aren't green undergo photosynthesis, apparently lacking chlorophyll.

Lets see… what is the definition of mythology

Mythology:
Definition: The body of myths (sacred stories) of a particular culture, or of humankind as a whole; the study and interpretation of such myths.

Myth
Definition: A traditional, typically ancient story dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes that serves as a fundamental type in the worldview of a people, as by explaining aspects of the natural world or delineating the psychology, customs, or ideals of society

That sounds like the bible to me.

Why? You have made blasphemy concerning the yellow unicorn, but unlike your god, the yellow unicorn doesn’t care what you think about her. The yellow unicorn is a grown up yellow unicorn, and doesn’t get upset if someone does not like her. She also doesn’t want to be worshiped, unlike your god that will send you to hell if you don’t.

Your good deeds will not save you or reserve for you a place in God's kingdom, nevertheless they are commendable.

I don't recall stating that your heart was not right.

Can you tell me where I ever said that I had more heart than you?

That's the difference between me and the paramedic in your scenario and that is the difference between me and you:

I don't believe in a religion. I believe in a Person: the Lord Jesus Christ.

My faith is not in a religion it is in a Person. Religion will not wash away my sins or make me a new creation in Christ Jesus. Religion cannot free me from sin's bondage. Religion did not leave Heaven to become the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. Religion did not live a sinless life. Religion did not go about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil. Religion did not proclaim the gospel of the kingdom and teach many multitudes the Word of the living God. Religion did not raised the dead, heal blind eyes, unstop deaf ears, or loose the tongue of the mute. Religion was not betrayed for thirty pieces of silver, beaten, spit upon, mocked, and nailed to a crude, rugged cross. Religion did not die on a cross for the wages of my sin. Religion is not the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Religion did not die on a cross, was not buried, and then rise from the dead three days later. Religion was not seen by apostles and by over five hundred people at once. Religion was not seen for over forty days after resurrection from the dead. Religion did not ascend into Heaven and sit down at the right hand of God with angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to it. Religion will not return and descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God to catch away the church and take them to Heaven. Religion will not return with the armies of Heaven after the seven year Tribulation period to rule and reign for a thousand years together with believers. Religion will not judge the world one day. Religion will not create a new heaven and new earth and dwell on earth one day, and rule and reign for eternity.

But...Jesus the Christ did, can, and will do all of the abovementioned.

So, put your trust, confidence, and faith in the Lord Jesus and not in your religion, parents’ religion, culture’s religion, or in your good deeds. Because none of it will wash away your sins and save you from the wages of sin which is eternal death in the Lake of fire.

I'm loving these calendar quotes JIA is spouting.
