A day is actually 23 hours, 56 minutes, 4.091 seconds long. Not 24 hours.

Well how do we tell time? By the Sun and the Moon. So if for 3 days PRIOR to him creating what we use as our 24 hour scale, how do you know it was days?

The year was determaned by the solstice. The anchent people would build things like Stone henge to calculate that information.
Course the Mayans did it best, cacluating the year to be 365.25 days. The actual number of course is 365.2424.
The jewish week was "based" on the creation story. But its not that original, since everyone else at that time used a 7 day week already based on the lunar cycle. 7 days * 4 phases gives you 28 days, the ancient approximation for a month. There are about 12 lunar cycles in the year, hence 12 months.
All this was, of course, around long before the Jews and the Torah.
