We do not have the ability to accurately predict weather even 24 hours from now given how complex global climate patterns are.

You have a gross misunderstanding of what scientists really know about these things, which is understandable, given how the green community has jumped all over this issue just like any other group with a doomsday prophecy.

No I am just not a pawn of the right wing who only care about the economy and are willing to sacrifice the environment to make money.

Did you say I wouldn't notice a 5% tax hike? That's almost $10 000, I would definitely beyond a doubt notice that.

And being greedy and selfish should be an option. Are you seriously being dictatoral now? You have absolutely no right to tell people what to do with the money that they earn.

You = arts student = me frowning down on.

Your logic is flawed and how does 5% =10 000$? And yes the government does have the right to request taxes in exchange for services.

Your logic is asinine.. The government needs to tax people, otherwise societies wouldn't exist, but what the government has no right to do is unrestrictively charge a certain group of people just because they're more successful. What your saying is far different than just "requesting".

It does have the right under the law, and as I said they can afford it without any negative effects to their lifestyle.

do you really believe what I am saying to be right wing propaganda?

Yes I do. Designed to make people ignore the problem in order to prevent the government from having to take action despite the consequences to the economy.

Let's see a party propose a 5% increase in taxes just to uphold the Kyoto Accord and then let's see if they win the election. Democracy, in its beauty, would quite easily remove that idiotic proposal with some low support.

A government having the right to do something does not mean that they should. If they were to suddenly hike taxes 5% that would be a violation of voter confidence. No government that did that would survive the next election.

5% = $10 000 when you make $200 000. You arts students need to learn how to do math.

wow man

it must be nice to live in a world where everything is so clear

maybe one day the rest of us will attain that level of sophistication...

If you would be so kind, would you please point out to me the proof that we have the ability to make long range predictions about earth's climate?

My inferior cerebral cortex must not be keeping up with the information as quickly as yours is.

so instead of making 200,000$ a year you would make 190,000$ a year. I weep for your great sacrifice.

And no, if they limited that tax hike to the higher tax brackets I don't think the public would have much of a problem with it.

And if you make $20,000 you now make $19,000, which is a gigantic hit.

Through logic, we know the effects our pollution is having, so we can predict the effects of reducing or stopping our pollution will have.

No because you only apply the tax hike to the higher brackets, not the lower ones.

no we don't

you cannot prove: a) how much of an effect greenhouse gases are having on climate change b) how much that change is due to increases in co2 c) how much the change due to co2 is due to man d) what the long term effects of this will be e) how likely it is that our predictions are correct.

I'm sorry, you really don't understand the science.

So we punish people for being successful? That makes a lot of sense in a capitalist society. 🙄

Yes, I simply choose to ignore right wing propaganda.

And we are not punishing them, it's simply a situation where we need extra tax $ and they are the only ones capable of paying it. It's a matter of the greater good.

No, it is punishing them. We are taking more of their money JUST BECAUSE they have a better job. It's idiotic.

Don't be stupid. It means my federal tax goes from 29% to 34% in addition to the provincial rate of 10%. This means I pay 44% taxes on about $185 000. Which means I make about $103 600 profit which will finally benefit me this year because I will finish paying off my house and the remants of my schooling. Also, this argument doesn't work on me because I tithe 10% of my earnings. So actually I make about $99 000. I would appreciate my additional $9250 so that I can start a family and an RRSP. Also, due to the inconsistent nature of my work I might not have many good years like this one. I could be making as low as $36 000 next year. If that becomes the case, then I would greatly appreciate my $9250.

People making less then that have families and do just fine, and yes all humans are greedy to some degree.

No it's how we function in a society, when we need more money to run programs that benefit society everyone must do what they can, and some who can do more, have to do more.
