Well... it's ok. It has bored me pretty quick, buit that's not a fair judggment as I am not huge on competition and the AI is currently locked in at 'Very Easy'.
It's VERY hard, sometimes, to distinguish your units from the background. That is the major gameplay failing as it stands. Also, frankly, even playing on faster, I found it very slow by modern day standards. My heart sank when I saw how many resource fields there were even on a simple 1vs 1- I loathe putting THAT much effort into getting resources.
So... yeah, it's not bad or anything, just... uninspired. There's no reaosn this could not have come out six years ago (though the animation is impressive), and even then we would have said it hadn't moved on much. It's a 6/10 job as it stands, maybe a 7. Of course, I am only taking about multiplayer here... though that seems to be what everyone else talks about too.
That one crash aside, new Battle Net seems to function, though myself and a friend had no luck with the voice chat yet.
Biggest plus? The Terran music is great. The Zerg announcer, though, is horrible.
It's not worse than its predecessor, inevitable balance issues aside.
But there is nothing about the multiplayer that will keep me coming back- and the full version won't change that. I think the single player will be the best draw for me. Those of you that like the mass clicking, insane micro-management style, then I am sure you will like this.
If anyone has any questions they want to ask about units etc, I can answer them.
Originally posted by Ushgarakdoes it have more or less micro than war3, and what are some of the major things you notice as an upgrade (or even, downgrade) from the original title?

Definitely more than War3- I believe that was a stated aim.
I don't think there are any downgrades, though I am not a balance expert. It's very overwhelming at first, with abilities that affect buildings (A Protoss time thing that speeds up the production capacity of a building, and a relationship between the Zerg birth queen and producing larvae (this zerg queen is also one of the new ways to begin spreading creep).
Starting with more peons is a step in the right direction, but I am still stunned by the number of mineral patches on a map. That much effort into resource management is no fun for me at all.
Actually e better step in the right direction would have been to make you need fewer peons, rather than starting with more.

Well, damn.
I was hoping for better. Do you have a really large screen and super duper graphics card? That could make a difference on distinguishing your units...maybe.
I'm one of those ones playing it for the single player. I don't like online gaming because I don't have enough time to play to the point of being competitive.
im not sure it necessarily has to do with screen size DDM, more to do with your eye sight and how well you can distinguish things.
like this video for example. i was watching it with my friend a couple days ago and i could distinguish the brown drones on the brown creep fine but she was having trouble distinguishing them.
I never normally have trouble distinguishing things when playing, but everyone I've tried this with has commented the same. My screen size and card are pretty decent too. Far too often, in an emergency, I cannot find the units I need.
DoWII, btw, is far, FAR superior a skirmish game to this. This is, in comparison, duller, slower, less visually impressive (though as I say the animation is good work) and unreasonably micro-obsessed, favouring gaming as a sport over gaming as a fun pasttime, which is not a good thing. I can't judge the AI yet, of course.
dow2 was boring just like company fo heroes (theyre fundamentally the same game) and is the low point to the series. DoW1's gameplay is superior to its sequel and starcraft trumps them both.
regardless, starcraft 2 isnt really a "skirmish" game so i dont even really see the need to compare the two in that manner. there are much more factors to winning a game in starcraft than just handiling your troops.

It's...uh, sounding less and less appealing.
This sucks. Of all the games I've been looking forward to, this game is I've been looking forward to the most, in my whole life.
