"sigh" being 5th in my Gold division is getting boring lol, I cant go up because every time a win a game or two, I take a loss and when I take a loss and go down to 8th rank or so, I win and go back to 5th....

How does one get to platinum? I have seen the Rank 1 of my Gold division at the top for what seems like a week or two.

Pretty sure you need to beat someone from the league above you to advance.

I find if a Terran brings Marauders my roaches tend to disintegrate, sadly. If not, and he's going all marines, they are extremely effective, however

I have to say the marine seems the most powerful unit in the game at the moment. Their so damn versitile and medivacs can keep them alive. Stimpac marines shred most Zerg threats, baneling mines are the only option I have found, that and wiping out his base with Mutualisks before he can get mine. I would rather see siege tanks or Thors rather than a huge load of marines/maruaders.

The division ranking doesn't seem to have much to do with getting promoted to another league or not. When I got promoted from Gold to Plat I was ranked like 20 or something.

The only thing I was able to see that was different in the days leading up to my promotion was that the matchmaking system had begun having me play against platinum league players. Each match for about two days was against an opponent who was 'favored'. So if you start seeing a good amount of matches where you are the underdog it probably means that the system is considering promoting you, and if you do well against these people (like 50-50) then you'll probably get promoted.

Interesting, thats nice to know. I thought I had to push my way to rank 1 before it was possible for promotion but at rank 5, I should be able to get some Platinum players.

Do Plat players really play much differently to Gold? or do Diamond play unique to Plat? perhaps faster or with more finesse/APM but surely the tactics are usually similiar?

Having looked at games between some players in the Diamond league they seem to do similiar things.

The players in platinum are noticeably better than Gold. I used to be able to steamroll most players in Gold, in Platinum each game is much closer and more strenuous. In fact my last 3 games have been come from behind victories.

I've only played one Diamond player thus far and he didn't seem that much better than the Platinum players I've played against.

The biggest difference between leagues is that it seems cheese and all-in rushes are much more rare the higher the league you're in. In silver you'd see quite a bit of this, in Gold you'd see a decent amount, in Platinum you almost never see a canon rush or a 6 pool zergling rush. Every now and then you might, but people want to play more legit in the higher leagues, it seems. And also because such tactics rely on your opponent not being good enough to counter such a build, and most people in Platinum know how to.

this game should be a first person shooter

I played my second placement game.

I got beat pretty handily. I never played the first online that much because I never wanted to lose but I was alright with it. He/she was clearly better than me.

Screenshot from a recent replay of myself. He calls me a n00b, and shortly there-after my apm jumps (temporarily) to 460. haermm Sure showed him! In a replay he'll never watch...

Brood Lords make Terrans /wrist.

What were you doing to get that APM? Ive only ever got into the 200's myself and thats when I am spamming unit groups, workers movements and doing a lot of micro.

Yeah, outside this fluke my highest apm has been 270-310 while countering a-moved bioballs. Their apm will be like 20. 🙁 and STILL get into my base before I kill their army. <_< I win though. Usually, MY average through out the entire game is typicly closer to 50, though.

But yeah, I was microing a lot of Zerglings, my BLs, mutas, Corruptors, ect. I don't think I could ever maintain that kind of speed, ever. Also, that Korean video makes my head hurt.

My one is about the same, average 50-60, thing is I cant see what I could be doing thats worth using 100-200 APM on during a game. I guess to start trying to be that quick, you have ot make sure your being fast for a good reason, making sure you know when you should have which units and where to place them is probably the first step.

I wouldn't worry about your APM until you get into diamond. The people who have very high APM often just spam commands to inflate it. All you should be worried about is trying to make sure you're never idle - just always try to be doing something.

Also, you guys should all sign up and share replays. 😄

Loved the burrowed banelings, wiped out like half his force. Nice muta harassment too.

Only thing I would suggest you do is hotkey your hatcheries and queens to make mass production easier.

Haha, thanks 😛 And yeah, wish I'd had thought to burrow more.

I've actually tried the hotkey queen --> minimap trick, and it doesn't work for me, oddly, is the only reason I didn't hotkey them and my hatcheries. Though, it really isn't an excuse for the hatcheries.

You're in like, gold right? What was that guy trying to do with only marines and a few marauders...

Also no detectors. wtf?
