Overpopulation solution YOU DECIDE

but most of the world's population has had problems with plagues and viruses, that has killed off good workers and left the population with nothing but a bunch of young kids who have to raise themselves...think about the history of the world and about how they pick their leaders, and how food supply is effected, and how they deal with overpopulation due to lack of food (not land, that's a different story)...and DISEASE (from food, animals, sex, airbourn...)

GOOD.

Disease is there to curb the population.

so explain to me why 100 people can't live on the island you are talking about

describe the exact reason why you don't think it works

it can work, but it's not the managing of the static 100, it's managing the fluctuation in food, which effects population, and managing sickness (in food, livestock, people)/etc., natural disasters, and what if they decide not to work or go on strike? what if they decide to start revolting and having babies all at the same time? or start killing each other out of jealousy or ego issues? what if someone is power hungry and wants to kill off the leaders so that they can do a "better" job?

A friend of mine had a great idea for this.

Make a button, everytime you push it it randomly kills 10,000 people. Then you just push it over and over until it kills you.

Their population will be governed by their food supply.

their food supply will be based primarily upon available land.

if you only have just enough food for 100 people, and there is no way to produce more, you will never have too many people. Or you might, but it will be limited

your social issues are just as relevant in a society that is underpopulated

well, the food for 100 is due to quality too, as we don't feed them mold (causes them to go crazy or develop cancer) or foods that developed a certain kind of fungus that we found out sickens people...and we can still produce more, but it depends on the crop/land and the weather.

the social issue is typical in the inner city....lots of killings b/c of pety conflicts, ego issues, etc.

Plus:

pre-industrial societies normally have such large families due to the high likelihood of child mortality. High birth rates in this society would be essential for any longevity.

yes, in many cases this (child mortality) was due to malnutrition, but poverty would have played a much more significant factor than overpopulation, and disease mixed with the lack of all basic forms of hygiene or sanitation would still be much more deadly.

none of this is a problem with overpopulation

Hahahaha, that's sooo whob

if the crops for the seasons have been continuing to produce only 73% of what's need to feed all 100 and about 2% from fishing...we are still left with too many people, (25% less then what we can afford to feed) not enough food to feed people, from the stand point of the 75%, we are overpopulated.

We unleash a super-virus that turns everyone into a brain-munching zombies! Theeen we hide a vaccine on the island and the first one to get it gets to survive and asexually produce, recreating the entire island population, thus not ending the problem, but bringing it in full circle. So then.... I suppose this post was a waste of space. Ah well...

yeah, but we don't have the tools to receate the super-virus...

Oh yes, my friend, we do! I have friends who work in fields of bio-something-whatchit... and they're close to cures for many diseases. She also has told me about a super-virus that was being planned. It has the potential to virtually eliminate the human race. That's strong chemicals their mixing... and if it happens to turn people into zombies... I guess there's no clearer course of action, but total annihilation!

this was suppose to be a thought exercise, not for my benefit, but for the general folks who may not even think it terms of scarcity of resources...if you want to take it this way, go ahead...i already took my jr. Economics undergrad class many years ago and got a B or an A, if it was a B, it was one point away from an A.

i can care less if you mock the whole idea, it was a gift to help us think in certain terms, if you want to take it as a form of mockery or someone is stupid or whatever, then go ahead, free country....but the intent was to allow us to think in terms of playing "god" and yet, projecting different "problems" and seeing if we can EMPATHIZE, as this is what we expect from our very leaders.

thanks for helping me see another aspect of how certain minds work!

Lighten up dudette it was just a joke. Besides, someone of the stuff I said, concerning the super-virus and other such things were true. Can't a guy have a little fun (at the expence of a board's dignity)? Seriously, don't think for a second that our Government is truthful in any way! We've had conspiracies all through time, 9/11 being one of the most recent. Listen, I'm quite sure that you can realize for yourself that everything has a reason. Overpopulation is just one of many results of government screw-ups. If they really WERE stuck on an island I suppose I would assemble the strongest and have the rest put to... alternative treatment. As for disease our smartest would try to create a vaccine using the DNA from the sourse of the epidemic...

i haven't heard of dudette in a long time!!!!!!!! lol

we (Americans) are the democratic gov't (really republic), it's not a kingdom or monarch, "we" pick our leaders...so, "we" are the ones to blame, see, if we had a king, we could blame the king/monarchy, but we are the ones who decide if we want to support war or not, we are the ones who support certain vaccinations for cervical cancer or not..."we" are the ones responsible, "we" are the ones who fought for freedom and other reasons as well...."we", when "we" look back at history, it's bad to look at it as if it's not "us", "we" have to do better and be better citizens, that's what makes this country great.

OK, play god. We have 100 people stuck on an island. We have wooded area, swamps and ocean (can't drink the water).

We have to keep all 100 people alive by making sure we have good water supply and sewage, none are built yet. And, we have to ensure we pay the 50 men and 50 women their share of work.

How do you handle overpopulation (bras are burning, people having children but not enough food reserves for everyone)?

How would you handle mfg clean water for drinking and for sewage?

What if you allocate work hours and people start to join another island?

How would you handle sickness and disease and education?

Would you go to war to solve overpopulation?

What about crop failure?

How would you institute a money system, as you are able to trade with neighboring islands (as you an war with them to take their production as well and lower your overpopulation)?

What about natural disaster?

How would you handle crime, people stealing food rashings for each other?

there aren't any on the island, HA, now what do you do to solve the problems!!!!!!!!!11

Wait until they get born. They can pop up anywhere that genetic defect is allowed.

What doesn't make it great however is that some people squander their rights as Americans. Say a couple thousand people say "Hey it's just one vote! Who cares if I don't vote?!" Then on the night of the elections President "I-suck-really-bad" is chosen for office by exactly one thousand votes. America is only as good as the person running it and it does happen to be a superpower. Civiliation crumbles and in turn because America is so powerful all of it's Allies crumble as well. The world ends and well all live a poverished life, all because of a thousand boneheads...

when i was a little girl, i spent most of my time in preperation for virology, but i ended up changing my desire for it in high school b/c of my position on using rats/animals as test experiments (that's what the rats get for hiding all those viruses which caused plauges in Europe, being cariers/conduits/hosts for bateria and viruses, for that kind of work that they did in European history, they get to be our lab specimen...that's a joke).

anyway, viruses/bacteria, when i was little (12-13 years old), i was trying to figure out the frequency of vibration for certain viruses (that information IS HARD TO GET, even when I was a little kid), as with resonance, once you know the frequency of vibration, you can now control the viruses/bacteria's life, I often wondered about their ability to mate with each other (splice and crimp dna of various microorganism)...all the stuff that is being cooked up today, i have no part in it, but was once a strong desire when i was a young girl, and did a lot of research on viruses and bacteria, mainly to see how they can work for us, even maybe in machine parts.

so, no doubt, these oranisms don't necessarily have to be our enemy.

i can't wait for them to come out with a protein-scan that will do a chemistry analysis of the brain and it's function, then go about the organs in the body to search for any imbalance in dna strain, insulin, hormones, cancers, viruses/microbs, toxic elements (mercury)...and then, after it does a full intelligence scan, it reports the stored information to the brain, signaling a person that they need to seek outside help to get rid of the xyz or get more vitamin xyz.
