We don't agree on a lot, but that bit there was spot on.It almost seems like they don't quite know what to do with Thor, which is why the inconsequential sideline story gets attention. Balder and Doom? Fine, that can pass as interesting. Boy from Kansas and asgardian goddess I've never heard about? I'll pass. MAYBE that kind of writing would have been acceptable if this was out monthly, but when we're waiting 3 months for every issue, we need to see more things happen.

That's what I kind of liked about this run. It's so uncertain. I just ended the Ragnarok cycle forever. Now what? It was pretty interesting seeing the interaction between the Asgardians and regular people. And I was even digging Bill and Kelda's excellent adventures. But I'm not digging how long it takes for each issue to come out either.
Yup. Like I said, it would've worked much better if we did not have to wait so much. When reading the tradeback of this in a year, people will probably love it.

You know what? I'm just going to let loose on Thor and Marvel in general. Now Thor's emo? Really? Did I miss a meeting or something? It's bad enough we have emo Bob (Sentry) getting punked up and out 6 ways from Sunday, but now Thor...THOR!?!?!? As in the Asgardian god of Thunder!?Say what you want about DC and their top tiers but at least they know how to put them to use with only a fraction of the whiny, emo crap. That's why Marvel's heavy hitters get such a bad rap in the vs forum. You won't see Supes jobbing to a Wolverine like character. Okay, Batman has a mighty big jobber aura...but he's the gawdam BATMAN!
Silver Surfer has all these exotic powers but mainly chooses to be a cosmic powered, I'm okay, you're okay, pacifist hippie! Gladiator has had some good moments lately, so I'll just leave him alone. Sentry keeps getting abused like it's open Bob season. And Thor...THOR!!!!! That annual was a big, runny, seeping, stinking, peanut and corn kernel infested pile of shit! Marvel has crossed the line.
No offense to Spidey and Wolvey, I read both titles, but still no Namor monthly? WTF is that MARVEL!? I can go broke reading Spidey and Wolvey but have to wait for guest appearances from Namor? Namor is badass. Maybe if he got all metro-ed up and started crying they'd give him a monthly? And speaking of Monthly titles...WHERE THE EFF HAS THOR'S MONTHLY BEEN?
Okay, rant over. Gonna down about 14.5 Jaeger Bombs and relax.
Honestly, chill.
Just relax, because I am going to share with YOU the best technique to combat ANY medium that you're unhappy with. I've tried sharing this with someone else, but they prefer to ignore it so I'm passing it on to you. Ready? Ok...
Think of all the writers that are frustrating you, all the titles...and...stop reading them. I can already hear you screaming "MADNESS! MA...THIS IS CRAZY!", but just swirl this revolutionary idea around the ol' noggin for a bit.
X-Men started to re-e-eeeally bother me back in the day, with Claremont. You know what I did? Stopped reading them and moved on.
Now, I know there are people here who'd tell ya that the best way to deal with this is harbour a massive grudge, continue paying attention to the character and writers who supposedly ruined it, so as to give you continual reason to whine about it online. I know that may sound, gosh, as tempting as a pie on a windowsill.
You've just gotta fight the urges to read stuff you apparently dislike, and chill.
That's just me though. I've always been a super radical thinker, a real outlaw, so my ideas don't generally get picked up. I have to say, though, I do think there's somethin' in this "Stop paying attention to shit you dislike." theory I've got.
As for the Vs Forum malarkey; so what? Who gives a crap what a bunch of armchair-fans who mostly download their comics think about who'd win in a fight? That forum is generally way more over-thought and frought with idiocy than a Republican National Convention.
We all know that based on consistency, Thor would crush almost anyone. If people are so desperate to credit losses to the man that they'd judge based on shit and character-inconsistent patches, then why even listen to them? The whole theory is "It's canon, so they can use it.". So what? Example: Italy won the World Cup, fact. Argentina were a better team throughout that tournament, fact. Italy just happened to get the results, fact. Conclusion to be drawn: anyone continually suggesting Italy were the better team just because of the end result is a moron, fact.
If you look at consistency, you can say without doubt that there were at least three better teams.
That's what I mean about the Vs Forum. People spend so much time in their proving who would possibly win a fight, that they honestly start having delusions of intelligence and grandeur. They're not unlike sports fans who sit at home and act like they could do better than the guy who is actually employed as a manager. Not saying some couldn't, but by and large, it's not true.
It's not as big a deal as you're making it. Also, if you wanna look at any of these characters who have had upward of 300 issues; they've all had massively inconsistent patches. Are we to judge Thanos or Dr. Doom accordingly just because they lost to Squirrel Girl? No, because that was clearly a stupid decision. It was canon, it counts, it happened. Denying that is stupid, the writer has the final say in what goes down and that's that. However, it clearly wasn't consistent.
I mean, sure, it sucks that certain writers take characters you love and do things you disagree with, but eh. Stop supporting them and eventually Marvel learn. Why do you think Greg Pak has been given Hulk, and Hulk's run with him has been established as the main one? Marvel aren't idiots. You don't get a corporation and successful business by being a moron.
Do they exploit the desires of morons? Yes, sometimes. Sometimes to the chagrin of their fans who aren't morons. They can possibly cater to them a little too much, but they're not ideas and they've redeemed themselves before.
If they don't, then don't support them.
I just don't understand the need for such massive fanfare and anger surrounding everyone's desire to "ditch" Marvel. Just stop reading them, why has everyone got to announce it with fervour?
Just chill.

I also stopped reading X Men. I can't remember what number, about the end of the last Apoccy arc back in '96. I have read a few arcs here and there since.
Stopped reading Wolverine Origins too. Just didn't like the direction they were going.
I will never stop reading Marvel. There are too many characters I grew up reading and watching. Plus they have a lot of good reads at the moment. I'm really liking Dark Reign. Been reading most of the tie ins. Daredevil has taken a few surprising twists the past few months. Liking all the Avengers titles. Invincible Iron Man has been really good imo.
There are some characters I can understand going through ups and downs. I think Marvel overdid it with Thor. I'll still read the comic...unless he starts wearing pink bows in his hair. π
Thanks for your reply.
My point was that the reactionary "Marvel have crossed the line!" knee-jerk was unnecessary.
There're enough people to do that without smart comic fans like yourself doing it.
Only dumb people harbour such grudges, and you don't seem to be one. Thor isn't really going in a great direction and now J.M.S. is leaving, lost its one possible path.
Your choice to keep reading is your own; it forfeits the right to complain.

1) Dr. Cox wasn't the first person to elongate his words. I was doing it before I even knew the character existed.
2) How does that remove anything from the rationality of my argument? Everything I said stands up against any questioning you could have. It still would, even if I changed my outfit to a doctor coat.
