JMS is supposed to be leaving, isn't he? Or he is he being removed, do to his slow output? Maybe he's kicking up a storm at Marvel demanding to finish what he started - then again, Squadron Supreme died a quick death didn't it?

It was like, cliffhanger of the century.

The only thing that keeps me going is following the progress of the Thor movie.
Plus, since I like to buy collections these days rather than issues, I'm not hanging on every month waiting.

From the Marvel November solits-

Thor #604

Has Doctor Doom crossed a line...? And what role did Loki play in Doom's sinister plans? What did Loki know...and when...? Now, as Thor heads to Latveria to settle the score, only one thing can happen: Thor sitting Doom down and having a
serious chat about their feelings. By which we mean, STATE-OF-THE-ART SLEDGHAMMER SKY-SCRAPING SUIT-SMASHING
SUPERHEROICS! Billy Tan (NEW AVENGERS) draws the action-packed escapades while Kieron Gillen (NEW UNIVERSAL: 1959, DARK REIGN: ARES, Phonogram) starts his six issue run. Hold onto your runestones, True Believers - things get hectic quick!

What else has this KIERON GILLEN done ?

X-men Manifest destiny, that's pretty much it.

This will be interesting....

He's also done the recent stories on Beta Ray Bill. His name being on Thor's series doesn't bode well for the title.

Dammit! How the hell are you going to put a garbage writer on after Mikes run?

KIERON GILLEN

......

Tan? seems ok.

Bio on Kieron.

Tan is good, but I'm not sure about this Kierron fella. He'll have to prove himself just like everybody else. Manifest destiny was allright, nothing great. He finally brought some life back to Iceman and his powers though, maybe we'll see something similar with Thor.

Can't be any worse than JMS's writing.

Didn't he write some pretty good stories involving Ares? That would bode well for writing Thor.

And he's writing God Hunter atm, along with the new Ares mini that is coming out soon.

That's cool and all, but I want to see Thor bash someone's face in. There's no reason Thor can't go beat someone up, instead of showing the incredible uninteresting development between "The chick and the hick"

Bit of a late reply, but never saw this thread:

I am someone who loved the idea of Thor, his appearances at events and the mythology behind him, but never really enjoyed his stories. Save for the odd run here, there and with Walt Simonson (I think).

J.M.S. is the guy who got me back into the stories, but I agree with what you're saying. Whilst there's definitely a theatrical, complex element to Thor, he is in danger of contracting the Mark of Norrin, i.e; someone super powerful who essentially does nothing but talk.

Not that there was anything wrong with his writing to begin with..........

We don't agree on a lot, but that bit there was spot on.

It almost seems like they don't quite know what to do with Thor, which is why the inconsequential sideline story gets attention. Balder and Doom? Fine, that can pass as interesting. Boy from Kansas and asgardian goddess I've never heard about? I'll pass. MAYBE that kind of writing would have been acceptable if this was out monthly, but when we're waiting 3 months for every issue, we need to see more things happen.

Just read the new Thor Annual.

Spoiler:
What a waste of my time. Issue was so pointless. It's been months since we see Thor, and this is what we get?

Why was Thor so damn whiny? Shit, he killed his entire people before. Thought he wouldn't be so damn hung up.

And what the hell? Thor is spent, by fighting Grog? He beat the crap out of him when he was drained of his Godly Power, and now he gives him trouble when at full strength? Lulz.

Well I'll try to rationalize it, but that's only because I love Thor.....

The Priest did say that Thor was at weakest they had seen, and once he started believing in himself again, he one shotted Grog, and even though he said he was spent, he was still easily kicking those Death Squad's ass. He also said, Grog shrugged of Mjolnir's full force which obviously wasn't the case. So like always his holding back. Still bugs me, that apparently Thor needs to go all out to defeat Grog, but that's how Thor is. All out, mightiest blow, not holding back, and his still not even trying based on his past showings.

Or maybe I'm just over thinking it, and this dude didn't know shit about Thor.

Seriously, who the **** is Peter Milligan?

You know what? I'm just going to let loose on Thor and Marvel in general. Now Thor's emo? Really? Did I miss a meeting or something? It's bad enough we have emo Bob (Sentry) getting punked up and out 6 ways from Sunday, but now Thor...THOR!?!?!? As in the Asgardian god of Thunder!?

Say what you want about DC and their top tiers but at least they know how to put them to use with only a fraction of the whiny, emo crap. That's why Marvel's heavy hitters get such a bad rap in the vs forum. You won't see Supes jobbing to a Wolverine like character. Okay, Batman has a mighty big jobber aura...but he's the gawdam BATMAN!

Silver Surfer has all these exotic powers but mainly chooses to be a cosmic powered, I'm okay, you're okay, pacifist hippie! Gladiator has had some good moments lately, so I'll just leave him alone. Sentry keeps getting abused like it's open Bob season. And Thor...THOR!!!!! That annual was a big, runny, seeping, stinking, peanut and corn kernel infested pile of shit! Marvel has crossed the line.

No offense to Spidey and Wolvey, I read both titles, but still no Namor monthly? WTF is that MARVEL!? I can go broke reading Spidey and Wolvey but have to wait for guest appearances from Namor? Namor is badass. Maybe if he got all metro-ed up and started crying they'd give him a monthly? And speaking of Monthly titles...WHERE THE EFF HAS THOR'S MONTHLY BEEN?

Okay, rant over. Gonna down about 14.5 Jaeger Bombs and relax.

If I'm not mistaken the last monthly in Mike s's run is in two weeks. I think hes summing everything up in one issue (which was not the plan originally) since mike felt marvel was about to butcher Thor with an up in coming crossover. I think thats also the reason hes leaving marvel.
