I wonder how long it's going to take people to start talking about this... oh wait, it hasn't been scanned yetEpic battle next issue though?
From the look at the ending yes. I wonder what exactly those special suits is going to do, other then make them breath in space.
Originally posted by quanchi112That wasn't even a full fight. Thor had the upper hand at first, Surfer smacked him back. Honestly, I'm glad that Surfer is getting his due. He has been kinda forgotten lately, and his big screen appearance really sucked in comparison to Thor.
Not over surfer anymore, apparently.
Thor and surfer is/was/will always be a great fight. It's always a fun read as well. I like both of them very much.
By the way, long time no see Quanchi....miss arguing in the name of Thanos/Thor back in the day...
I really don't understand how putting on Stellar Armor would make an ordinary Asgardian a threat to Galactus. I hope Galan summons a wave of Punisher Robots or something, because I may not be his biggest fan, but I sure as hell don't want to see him being hurt by an average Asgardian stabbing him in the eye/foot or something equally stupid.
He'd lose any credibility he has left.
My prediction is that Galactus wipes out the first assault, Odin steps it up, and the to go at it to death for 2 issues or so. At some point, Thor stops battling the Surfer, and perhaps puts on the Destroyer armor to break the two apart or to face some unknown threat.
Fraction's characterization of Odin is growing on me weirdly enough. It did however piss me off that Thor/Surfer are acting as if they've never met or something. And that Thor would so eagerly seek out a battle with him. As much as it pains me to say this, Pak got Thor's reaction to an attacking Surfer down in Chaos War. Fraction's Thor is basically a blonde Conan in terms of personality.
Fraction really needs to step shit up. He takes something that should last 1 issue and drags out into 4 issues.

Thor's outright willingness to attack Surfer threw me too, it came at of nowhere considering their past.
My other gripe here is, if Odin is telling the truth, it's completely out of character for Galactus. He's never wanted to be all powerful and survive forever- he's survived because he must etc.
That's why Surfer's explanation made so much more sense- Galactus would go to such lengths to prevent his hunger and stop genociding, because he doesn't like killing billions of innocents.

Galan actually wants to end his hunger, that making him inmortal it's just Odin's take on that fact.
I read it on Wednesday and didn't post since I wanted to see how many of you guys got it legitimately 😖hifty:
Some highlights
Some weird side plot involving volstagg going down to broxton to be a cooking teacher. the townsfolk use this opportunity to voice their extreme unease with asgard's proximity to their town. volstagg then interprets that as some declaration of war by the townsfolk on asgard, or some such. probably just some comic relief.
Thor/Surfer fracas happens pretty much as we saw in the preview. We get teased with a fight about to erupt with both guys about to go full bore (Surfer says So Be It, Thor says something to the effect that he is going to take all his frustration out on surfer).
However odin steps in and surfer respectfully communicates Galactus' desire to possess the seed, under the pretense that the Seed will sate Galactus forever and spare billions of lives and countless civilizations from extermination. Odin says no I will not give it to your master, Surfer reiterates that he was not issuing a request. Pretty tense exchange, I liked it. Odin grabs surfer by the throat like a ragdoll and throws him to the ground. Odin says tell your master to tell you the truth about the seed.
The Seed is explained: It is apparently some power source or energy source, from the "All-Father's" very heart. I don't know if that refers to TOAA or what. Predates all existence and will survive the end of the current universe. So basically, it is mikaboshi but non-sentient and non-aggressive. More importantly, it created the World Tree which links the 9 realms and it will create the next Galactus in the next universe. Odd. So Odin says Galactus effectively covets the seed not so that it can sate him insofar as that as long as the seed exists, it is guaranteed that Galactus will die at some point. Again, Odd.
SS gets up off his ass and says Galactus is coming, not for Earth, not for Man, but for Asgard, and flies away.
Loki is in Sif's room. I forget why he needed to go there. He catches sif sleeping naked but she catches him and threatens him with her sword. Loki gets a full view of her crotch. Thor walks in and says what is going on, Loki leaves, Thor says we have finished forging the star armor for the attack wave. But he and sif have some time before then to have sex.
Last page is Galactus in profile while little asgardians in their star armor are flying to confront him, with SS ready to attack.
All in all....nothing happens this issue to further the plot, except for the explanation of what the seed is. Typical set-up issue, nothing more, nothing less.
Issue 4 is the promised throw down between Galactus and Odin, per Fraction's interview in USA Today.
So how do people feel about the revelation that Odin is older than Galactus?

Yup, writers need to stop using Galactus because sooner or later, he's going to be a legitimate villain/bad guy under a writer. It was pretty amusing seeing Odin tell the Surfer to get a clue. The verbal beat down Odin's going to hand out to Galactus is going to pretty lol worthy I suspect .
As I understand it, Odin's father discovered and planted the World Seed when Odin was a young boy. Galactus was birthed by this event. There is no conclusive evidence for this as far as I know, but I'd wager Odin witnessed the event and Galactus' birth. It's most likely the main reason why he knows so much and that Galactus is full of shit.

No, the Seed will birth the next Galactus.
Galan merging with the previous version of Eternity in the Cosmic Egg birthed Galactus, not the Seed.
Odin can never be truly older than Galactus unless they do a blatant retcon and say Galan was from the current MU, or that Odin was from the previous universe, or Galan's universe was in fact the current universe and not the previous one, etc.
Also, Galactus has a long, long, long history of hiding cosmic truths from his heralds. This is nothing different.

Surfer said it was a relic from the previous universe, and from what Odin said it's basically a universe egg, not just the world tree. So from what I gathered, it was basically all that remains of Galactus' universe, and the world tree along with all of creation sprang from it.
I imagine that at the end of the universe, it essentially gathers all matter and energy (Eternity which will fuse into Galactus) and then creates the next Big Bang.
There wasn't anything to suggest Odin was older than Galactus. And tbf, I reckon Odin might be the one bullshitting, as we saw last issue he's being really secretive and hiding things from Heimdall, and Fraction's Odin seems to have no qualms about lying to and using Thor for however he needs him.
Odin lying about it and Thor confronting him could also explain why he and Thor were pretty moody in Fear Itself.
