uhm listen up. darkseid needs a powerful powerup to to conquer his universe, as does thanos. they arent mutliversal beings on their own. thanos gets his powerups while darkseid doesnt.

The ale is a power you must define for yourself, a puzzle you must solve, not something that already exist. That's why it has never been truely defined, in the comics. However, aquiring the Heart of The Universe wasn't much easier than solving a universal scale metaphorical rubix cube like the Anti-Life Equation.

And just to let you know, the closest thing to a different power source, Ds tried to aquire, was the Anti-life aspect(but it was retconned, to not being the true ale). I could be wrong though.

Actually, since the ALE was theoretical for a long time and not really fleshed out, it was harder to acquire. However, recently, Darkseid has uncovered part of it and is now hunting for the other parts of it.
Yes, the HOTU was tough to get, but in terms of difficulty, it and the ALE are comparable.
Other powers? No, not really. the last time he sought another power was when he smashed open the source wall. Of course, he's stopped trying to do that after he got put on the wall with Highfather.
On-topic: Much as I give Thanos props, this is like trying to prep a way to beat someone on Odin's level with no power ups. And Darkseid's tech is much better, not to mention he has control over time&space. And of course, there's the OE, which is almost impossible to prep for. 😉
