Sort of, all the English guys were away at war except the old and those in protected jobs like the Police etc. So the American airmen came over and had more money and access to things the English did not due to rationing etc. Like Chocolate and Nylons. At the time the major cities had been bombed the hell out of and although the Airmen were coming to help they did behave dishonourably a lot of the time. Something which was pretty amusing was many English women who slept with white American servicemen were shocked to find they gave birth to black babies.
