Cloverfield

I certainly think so.

Truthfully, the movie wasn't even really about the monster.

It is similar to the movie Day After Tomorrow. There was sh*t constantly going on around everyone, but the focus of the story was more about the people surviving then the weather itself. Cloverfield is similar. This move isn't like Godzilla or Jason or Freddy Krueger, were the killer is the star and focus of the show and the humans are more liek supporting main characters. It's the other way around.

That is actually why I liked this movie so much. In the old Godzilla movies, they would show Godzilla tramping around through the city, fighting other monsters and tearing sh*t down, and there was always a bunch of people running away or out of the buildings. I personally didn't really care much about Godzilla or the monster he was fighting, or the small group of Military scientists never in harms way trying to kill the monster. Rather, I cared about those little people who were just going through there daily life when suddenly out of no where this sh*t happens. For every building he knocked over, there is always someone still in there doing something. I cared about those guys, and this movie was focused on those guys.

So, it all worked out great for me.

And is it just me, or did Lizzy Caplan really make this movie? She was, imo, the best character in the movie.

It was aight.

Totally! She was the best for sure! I was pissed when she died. And the way she died.

kinda true. they were filming on and off for 7 hours.

I believe we can assume the camera was turned off in between filmings.

Just saw it tonight and it was awesome.

This movie started here in Oz today, and there are comments about the way the movie was filmed - people have gotten sick from watching, and even the reviewers noted something off.

Anyone explain exactly what this means? Was the film shot hand held or something?

The film is shot through a camera in sort of a first person view similar to The Blair Witch. The shaking of the camera causes some people to get sick. A friend of mine got sick when we saw it.

Oh, okay. I saw Blair Witch and loved the camera work, I guess it only makes some people sick.
I've heard the best seat in the theatre to view this film is at the back in the middle, according to the reviewer.

That's were I watched it, and I was fine. I was constipated for three days after watching the movie but that was because I was depressed by it.

🙂

Is it just me, or did this monster look like one of the monsters from The Mist?

My thought on the film were brief in my previous posts, due to the broken space key on my laptop. Posting anything remotely relevant would have been beyond laborous.

Anyway, I saw the film yesterday, and I was astounded. Though, I am a long time Godzilla fan, I dont like most other giant monster movies. But this one is different and takes a refreshingingly new idea to the table. We view the attack from one of the civilian's perspective in this movie.

When Godzilla hit theaters in Japan in 1954, the viewers were terrified of the creature. This seems hard to grasp nowadays, even though the film is still among one of the greatest films I have seen. We simply cannot relate to people of 1954, who had not seen anything like Godzilla before it.

I believe the whole terror aspect has been ressurected in Cloverfield. Giant Monster movies have turned from horror into simple entertainment. Something needed to change, and I believe Cloverfield changed it, by putting you right in the driver's seat.

I think the camera filming was extremely effective in my oppinion. I was able to experience the terror first hand. I admit, on occasions, the fact that the camera is on while some things are happening is a bit beyond believable. (I definately would have shut the camera off when crossing the buildings) But I could feel the pressure of the situation by viewing it in first person.

I enjoyed this movie profusely, and I look foreward to the possibility of a sequel. I'm interested in how that would work.

I believe the sequels will cover the same attack from a different perspective with different people. As for where the monster came from, I think it was hinted at in the viral marketing. The stuff about Slusho.

Yup, according to wikipedia, the makers hinted at an alternate story about the same attack. A different recording. They say that there is another person filming on the bridge. Apparently they see eachother. I missed it, but I definately think its an interesting idea.

It would be cool to see those two videos interacting with eachother for that brief moment. I hope they do this, it would be very interesting.

I think, I read on wiki that the monster was simply a creature lying dormant in the sea for like 1000 years and was disturbed by a sattelite falling into the water. Apparently you can see an object falling into the water in the background of the final scene. While they are on the Ferris Wheel. I didnt notice it, but hey...sounds cool

I heard the same ting the other day^

ya, its true that you see something fall into the ocean, and about the garbled radio message after the creds

Their are interpretations of the message on youtube. And even bad quality videos of the final scene where you can attempt to see the object falling.

wait so is this, or is it not worth watching cause all I've heard was this movie was terrible except form one person?

Go see for yourself. People have their own oppinions. To avoid a movie simply because someone doesnt like it is absolute rubbish. Some told me this movie sucked. I found it to be fantastic, this movie blew me away.

Anybody seen this video? I think is just the shape of the clouds since the monster didnt look like that. People seeing things!
