Countdown never existed.

That's how I like to think about it.

Countdown isnt that bad.

Very cool sig.

That tricky source brought Orion back to deal with Ds and as this explains at a later time like in countdown 2.

Issue 8 was meh. I will read it in its entirety over the weekend but it didnt give me that final payoff I wanted in this ish.

I think Darkseid looks very cool in this issue.

Overall I enjoyed it but it could have been better.

I enjoyed it. It was everything it needed to be. To try to be any more epic or profound would be to sensationalize the New Gods, but they also needed proper closure. Say what you will about Starlin, but he doesn't suck. Some may like him more than others, but he's a solid writer/artist.

Well, it appears my prediction after reading 7 came true. EPIC FAIL.

Starlin has no god damn clue how to write the New Gods. I hope to god this shit is either retconned or removed from continuity. 👇

My point, thus proven.

🙂

No, Starlin doesn't get them. Morrison will do them justice. Hell, Seven Soldiers: Mr Miracle was heads&shoulders over this crap.

Ah, but naming a great series (or writer, in Morrison) does not invalidate the merely good ones. I didn't sing its praises universally, only said it was good. I could compare it to, say, Countdown and declare it the greatest mini ever, but the logic would be similarly flawed, just in the opposite direction.

Fair point. I just can't help but see that Starlin didn't do it in a way that honored the New Gods. Except for Orion, oddly enough. He was the only one who got a worthy death, and he got rezzed.

Eh. Again, fair point, but he only had 8 issues. Metron had a noble sendoff, Darkseid/Orion obviously got their due. Scott (and through him, Barda)...Superman's monologue at teh end that paid tribute to them. I dunno...It's only the hardcore DC nuts who would care too far beyond those ones. I guess you'd fall into that category somewhat, so I see your point, but from a "casual" fan's perspective it was satisfying (casual is in quotations because we're all hardcore comics fans compared to the norm...but this is in relation to, say, KMC).

But to say "kill the New Gods in 8 issues" to Starlin, I thought it was handled as well as possible by him.

Metron basically got what he wanted.

DS fought the ****ing Source then died as prophecied.

MrMiracle's death was tied to the life/antilife war just as his life had always been.

Everyone else (mostly people with names known only to obsessive fanatics) got screwed. We didn't even see how Orion got screwed.

Meh.

Darkseid will be back.

OR SHOULD I SAY DARK SIDE.

Yeah, ****ing people up Final Crisis.

Redemption for all the Countdown crap and this semi crap.

Starlin did them justice and I thought it wasnt too shabby.

But as digi says just because you love how Morrison perceives them this shouldnt take away from Starlin. You dont have to compare writers to each other but look at the work itself. If you hate the death of the new gods thats fine but dont hate it because it falls short to Morrisons stuff in your mind.

I liked Starlins Darkseid.

Now I wonder what this new Ds will look like in fc.

Not a bad issue as some would say, liked the part where Superman couldn't really do nothing about the gods fighting, DS beating Supes again 😄. The Source/God seems on the right track making the Fifth World. Can't wait for Morrison's FC and him showing the gods as they was meant to be shown.

I really expected this issue to make some clear connection between it and Countdown #2. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Orion and Darkseid's exits weren't explicit enough for you?

Sarcasm ?

Or you're serious and think this actually makes sense ?

It made sense. He was resurrected to take care of Darkseid at a later time. It was countdown 2.

The end of Countdown takes place after DotNG. The exits of DS and Orion lead directly to the final confrontation between them near the end of Countdown.

Exactly.
