Not a bad issue as some would say, liked the part where Superman couldn't really do nothing about the gods fighting, DS beating Supes again 😄. The Source/God seems on the right track making the Fifth World. Can't wait for Morrison's FC and him showing the gods as they was meant to be shown.
Darkseid was powered by the souls of the dead new gods. Or course hed kick the crap out of Supes he was amped.

I liked how Orion couldn't speak in DONG #8 but could in Countdown.

I also liked how Superman blew a hole in Darkseid's ass only for him to be saved by his power up.

Yeah, DS was equal in power to the Source but Superman was still capable of hurting him.

Maybe DS just isn't powering his avatars up as much as he used to.

Clark is just that awesome.

The end of Countdown takes place after DotNG. The exits of DS and Orion lead directly to the final confrontation between them near the end of Countdown.

Chronologically, it was made pretty clear that this was supposed to be the case, especially with the Source telling Superman that Orion will be dispatched to Earth to deal with Darkseid.

This doesn't change the fact that certain events happening in Countdown and Death of the New Gods contradict themselves.

For example, Superman witnessing the discussion between Darkseid and the Source aswell as even he telling Orion "So you're fine with the Source massacring your people, Orion?" and still in Countdown #3 accusing Darkseid of killing the New Gods.

Do I need to start mentioning the fact that what was brought was the soul of Orion, without being able to speak yet in Countdown it was potrayed differently ? Or the fact that when they left, both Darkseid and Orion were still powered up, yet when Darkseid appeared in Countdown he wasn't ?

Or the fact that when Orion appeared, Darkseid said that he should have died at the hands of the Infinite Man, despite already knowing that the Source brought him back ?

Seriously now 😬

This is obviously a lack of communication between the writers.

I really expected this issue to make some clear connection between it and Countdown #2. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

I remarked on how DS and Orion's exits connect with Countdown #2

The issue of terrible continuity problems was never mentioned.

I guess I should have expressed myself differently because it's pretty obvious that it was the writer's intent for Countdown #2 to take place after DotNG 8.

My bad.

DS was never equal in power to The Source, in fact it seems to have been just messing with Darkseid the whole time and had a back up plan just in case, also freeing itself from Darkseids control when it deemed time. And no Quanchi Darkseid never was powered by the dead New Gods souls, he blasted Superman with his Omega Beams (regular DS power) limiting its effect to keep him alive, DS took the Soul Fire Project giving him for a short time an understanding of the Equation which should have killed him shortly but DS was using the dead New Gods powers to keep him alive, nothing else it seems. That's how he was able to do what he did. 😉

No that wouldn't make sense because even with the ALE he would only be half as powerful as the source and not capable of standing up to him. But still all of the new god's power also shouldn't be equal to the source as he created them.
