I find it interesting that you would even bring up Tales actually, since Tales is very much similar to Bioware, only in this case they use common JRPG tropes in a way to tell a compelling story. Can you say with all certainty that the Dwarves were totally identical to the ones in Dragon Age?
Their take on Elves and Dwarves has actually been done before - GK pointed out before that the Elves in DA๐ฎ are very similar to the Elves in one of the Tales games, and the Dwarves are identical to how Dwarves are portrayed in a fantasy series I read a few years back (though unfortunately the name is escaping me at the moment).I disagree that they manage to make compelling stories and backgrounds from abusing these tropes, though. I'm very well read in fantasy literature, and Bioware always seems to just fall slightly short (at best - half the time they do faceplants into the pavement, in my opinion) when it comes to pulling off the tropes and cliches well.
And, well, if everything in it is pulled from other sources, then it's not original.
That's your opinion and you are entitled to it, you are not required to find the plotline compelling. What is compelling and interesting as a plot to you is not the same for others however.
There is nothing new under the sun. What makes a work original IMO is the way it is presented. Also, to quote Mark Twain:
"Your manuscript is both good and original; but the part that is good is not original, and the part that is original is not good."

I'm not a fan of the Tales games at all ๐ Human prejudice is the only thing that differentiates DA๐ฎ elves from typical fantasy elves. And yes, minus the golem thing, they were.
I don't agree that it was presented well at all. But I've been of the opinion for a very long time that Bioware's reputation is massively overrated. I suppose I'm just not easily impressed ๐

Yes, I like that word. ๐ They were intended to be a deconstruction (Oh look another favorite word of mind) of Elves, and were actually modeled after medieval Europe's IRL treatment of minorities like Gypsies and Jews. I also kinda like DA's depiction of Elves because, well, I generally hate the Elven race and seeing them suffer brings me happiness. ๐ So the dwarves were nearly wiped out by what can best be described as Orcish hell monsters and they are on the verge of collapse as a kingdom, while the civilization as a whole is also threatened by corrupt nobles and unless they change their civilization they will stagnate and further isolate themselves from the world? Also caste system and stuff.

Well I personally disagree, but respect your opinion. Maybe you're just impressed differently than others? Or something.

Love KH. But I could not bring myself to finish Chain of Memories or 358/2 days. **** them both. ๐
Days wasn't that bad to be perfectly honest. COM sucked and always will. Only beat the Riku story. **** Sora.

Was the unnecessarily stupid named KH that bad?
It was stupidly named. But I enjoyed the ironic thing it said on Day 359.
