You guys wanna know something you'll really hate? I'm not even a Star Wars fan. I think Lucas got lucky once and he's been riding it ever since.
A lot of SW fans will agree. And think that the movie that's the best is the one he was completely hands-off with. And that he's driving the franchise into the ground. Lucas is a world-builder and visual designer more than he is a writer, and the PT makes this patently clear.
However, he still got lucky, and managed to create something completely awesome.
And I also despise Ewoks, Matt, and think ROTJ is the weakest of the OT; I'd go so far as to say it's the weakest of the movies, period, because it's just such a poor ending.
Lucas is a world-builder, not a director. He got lucky with ANH, and then ESB was the best, and he had very little to do with it. Then he meddled with RotJ and screwed the ending up.
Lucas' greatest sin is that he's a meddler. Almost all the changes he's made to the OT since the original release have been making them slightly worse. Like the horribly fake Jabba in the new version of ANH. Or changing Vader's ghost at the end of RotJ to Hayden Christiansen. And the entire PT has shown that Lucas couldn't write a believable love story if his life depended on it.
But the world, the world is great. Planets of every kind, ancient mystical orders, magic, technology, fantastic beasts and lands, it's the best fantasy world developed, but with spaceships. I far prefer the OT to the PT, but the PT universe is a thousand times better.

I never got that title. Blue Harvest was a ROTJ thing if I'm remembering correctly.

Ah, I see. Haven't kept up with Star Wars in God knows how long.

This, this, all of this.
Especially the last paragraph. The reason I like Star Wars so much, despite disliking science-fiction? Because it's not sci-fi. It's fantasy in outer space. And while the OT movies are better, the setting of the prequels is so much better in every way. You have Jedi in their Golden Age. Political intrigue. Gorgeous art designs, and oh my god don't start me on the costumes because I will go on all day about how amazing they are. If there's one thing Lucas excels at, it's fleshing out worlds and civilizations, and he has an amazing eye for visual design. He just can't write and direct to save his life. He's no Tolkien when it comes to world-building, but he's damn good.
OT = better story and characters.
PT = better everything else.
Blue Harvest was Return of the Jedi, not ESB (it's most notable for its use in Arizona, where the Tatooine scenes were shot). Family Guy used it just as a call-out; they said that if they'd known the parodies would go to a franchise they'd have used something different.
The PT gave Lucas a chance to show off his vision as he had always wanted to, hence the interesting setting. And many parts of his overall story arc are very good, but inexplicably he never explained them on-screen, only in interview, leaving the average viewer no idea of what he means by vital issues like Balance or the midi-chlorians, leaving people to draw their own erroneous (though understandable) conclusions.
GL did great directorial work with Graffiti and THX. I am hesitant to just say someone has lost it, as that's such a lazy criticism. I think you have to look at people's motivations. The basic issue with the PT- other than the central romance being garbage- is that there are at least four films worth of story in three films, and much of the middle of the story is very dull.
Let's not forget that he did write certain aspects that were much more inventive than amateur guesses at what the Prequels would be had been- like the nature of the Sith, and the Clones being on the good guys side in the Wars. He's no slouch as a storyteller (as opposed to a dialogue writer... which he self-admittedly sucks at).

Why don't u want to watch the original trilogy Moo? They're the best one's in the series imo, even though they're older.
My only problem with it now is that they don't really show force powers much from what I remember because Luke wasn't actually an "official" jedi, he was still in training. They do explain how the force works in more detail though. Then again I haven't watched all 3 of them since I was like 9.

And I don't want to watch the original trilogy because I hate Harrison Ford almost as much as I hate midna.

He irritates the hell out of me for reasons I cannot explain. It's a shame too, because Indiana Jones is pretty bad ass. And I've only seen one of those four.

...how the hell do you hate Harrison Ford? He's an acting god with multiple amazing roles! Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Rick Deckard, Jack Ryan, President James Marshall! My god, how do you manage to exist when you act like this?!
He's won 20 awards in his 4 decades of acting, and been nominated for 18 more. He received the AFI Lifetime Achievement award in 2000, the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in 2002, and got a star on the Hollywood Walk in 2003. He's one of the most prominent and achieved actors alive. Regardless of your ludicrous personal opinion, he is an acting god.
Also this, right at the top.
