Sure, Sazh and Snow are awesome and Fang is sexier than sex, but Lightning is an unlikeable *****, Hope is a punk, and Vanille, though adorable, is a laughable walking disaster.
Tactics has easily the best plotline of the game, having both characters with depth, SHAWKING twists and turns, and lots of bawssness like that.
It also has possibly some of the most srs bsns subject matter of any Final Fantasy game, classism is featured heavily, but probably the most SUPAR EDGY thing in the game is it basically expands on the Pharisee argument of the Bible. This is a minor spoiler, so if you care, I will censor it and you can choose not to read it:

Despite all the bullshittery going on in the game, he remains a fundamentally decent person, he always lends help to those who need it, fighting for those who cannot help themselves, and does it at great personal expense. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished and all that.
Oh, and I should note Ramza is the protagonist.

Kay. Pulse is basically Australia though. It is an uncivilised place with numerous animals trying to kill you. Australia.
But yeah, Tactics is easily the best Final Fantasy.
Though be warned, the PSX version's script is... Odd. Though some like the cheesy dialogue. The PSP version has dialogue that is more srs bsns.
